Too lazy to link the tweet, but go to his profile and see for yourselves if you don't believe me (why wouldn't you?).
So, there was a bit of misinformation from IGN when they quoted Mac for having said that all romances are available regardless of gender. He corrected them and clarified that romance options depend specifically on whether you're Scott or Sara. So no player-sexuality, and no "one for the bisexuals, gays and straight".
In other words, characters are given agency this time, and romance will just as much depend on whether they dig you in the first place so you're not just ordering which romance you want within your possibility. It could very well be that most characters are bisexual or anything, but really, what matters here seems to be what they think of each other as persons and not as sex-objects.
Also, this is fantastic. It can mean that when playing as Scott, Sara will find love with one of her romance-exclusive companions during the campaign as well, and in terms of choices it means they're that much more tightly planned for whatever sequels Andromeda might have.

Not sure i think it's fantastic.
Much greater odds of not finding compatible sexually or personality wise in an already artificially small pool.

Sorry I'm not sure I get it..........but saying that romances aren't gender specific and then telling that it will depend on whether you pick Scott or Sara (male and female), it IS actually saying that the romances are gender gated.
Could you please clarify?

'No. Romance options vary depending on whether you play Scott or Sara' - tweet by Mac Walters
That sounds more like if you play a straight guy in the game and try to hit on a lesbian romance option, then you're going to get rejected. Like what they did in Inquisition, where they made certain romance options gender or race locked depending on whether you played male or female. Doesn't really sound character specific, more like gender and sexuality specific.

I don't think I'd like the game to choose a romance partner for my sibling, especially if I have an option to control that character in a future sequel.

Doesn't sound like the best idea, even if possible one. Considering how they are close to being protagonist. Well, if there is an option to find their potential LI and scare them way, so a sibling would stay lonely and miserable like they should, I guess I could tolerate that.

Well that looks very cool, but as long as I can romance Peebee and Vetra as SisRyder we won't have any trouble I can accept if Peebee is a BroRyder romance option only (which I think it's kind of impossible, because Asari usually don't care if their partner is male or female), but if Vetra is exclusive to BroRyder, oooh man then we are going to have a very serious problem BioWare, because things are going to burn and heads will roll.

Well i'm pinning my hopes on Cora as a romance for broryder so that would work for me. I'll be irate if i'm faced with the annoying peebee and a bird as bro ryder's options. Disliked options in DAI so i'm rather nervous.

I feel like the hair he's splitting is very fine. What would be cool, if more difficult to program, would be if your ability to romance a character depended on the kinds of things you said and actions you took. You know, like real life. But this doesn't sound like it will be any different than what they've done in the last couple games, so it'll probably be fine. Though for options' sake, I think I prefer DA2's approach the most. Just ignore all the partitioning and let the players decide who they prefer no matter what character they're playing.

I'm really just reading this as: the characters have set sexuality, if you play as Sara you won't be able to romance the gay guy or the straight lady and vice versa if you pick Scott.

OP, the romances are gender specific. Walters tweeted that you have to be Scott to romance some LIs and Sara to romance others.
I just hope options are more evenly distributed in regards to sexuality than in previous BioWare installments of ME and DA.
I will remain optimistic, though.

Doesn't that simply mean that Romances are gender gated?... Bio guy wanted to correct a piece of information, so he used the most convoluted and vague statement possible in this context in order to do that. Great job. Dev speak... but yes, that's what he said.

I hope it means they'll make the first move or better, you'd be forced to push someone away if they come on too strong. I'm kinda tired of always being the one pursuing the romances I want, and I think it hurts the individuality of the romanceable characters. Not always, but in the long run it does.

I'd be all for someone making a move first. Whether or not I accept aside, it's something that we haven't witnessed so far. I'm just worried Bioware won't do it because I can see some people protesting a character is being "forced" on them. I seem to vaguely recall the devs from a DA game having to reassure people that romances were optional and only player-activated. I can understand not wanting to deal with unwanted attention in a game, but there are people out there that would overreact.

Making each character have their own preferences is much more realistic than making them all player-sexual. A lot more interesting too, sure it locks some out but that's the point of having multiple playthroughs & characters.

This just seems to mean the romances are gated by your choice of sibling, scott or sara. Perhaps the romances are all player sexual (towards scott and sara respectively), individual sexualities may not be discussed/addressed. Otherwise typical cryptic dev speak.

I'm pretty sure I've seen somewhere that your choice of player character will have a bigger impact that previous games. Maybe salarians "helpfully" set up a breeding program for the other races, and your assigned partner is an option? That would be something that depends on character but not (directly) on sex.
