I do it manually, but I never save. Who cares if I occasionally miss a Random Inventory Object #2863. Yeah, ME2 puzzle stuff was very fun. I just wish they had more combinations. For example, very soon it became apparent that the circuit thingy only had several variations. True. Could have been interesting if the puzzle was harder base on game level you're playing. So insanity might have a lot more circuits and less time versus story mode having just a few and plenty of time. And variants in-between for other levels. One thing I did hate in ME2 was how if I was attacked while trying to unlock a crate I could never open that crate because the game assumed some crazy lockdown happened that could only be undone by knowing the actual code (that is, being the owner).

Huh, the only time I remember that happening -- being attacked while trying to open something -- was in Garrus's loyalty mission. I don't think that was an issue elsewhere, for me at least.

I always turn everything that I know is rubbish into omni-gel as soon as I get it, so I can omni-gel all the crates open. Thereby removing the two most irritating things from the game at once.
Also, about the ME2 mini-games: has anyone noticed how you always find the first two code fragments, but the third one takes ages to scroll up, or does it just happen to me?

Am I the only one who does all the unlocks/decrypts manually? If I mess up, I reload. Yes, I have tons of omni-gel I could use, but that takes all the fun out of it.
Oh gosh, I hope you are aware that for all the minerals, writings, emblems, ID tags, you can just try again without reloading... it's only the crates that give loot that don't offer you unlimited chances at the hacking game. Early on in a first-time playthrough, I will reload because one can run out of omni-gel pretty darned fast. If I'm doing an NG+ playthrough and I pretty much have all the gear I want, I may just not even bother trying to open those crates. Oh yeah, those ones I just redo, but for the ones you need to use omni-gel on if you fail the first time - those I reload for. Not because I need the items or even the creds or omni-gel since both are maxed, but because my OCD requires me to do them all manually, to prove I can. Especially the hard ones. Considering I haven't played ME1 for about 3 yrs, maybe longer, I feel like I've been doing pretty well on them. Fingers still have some flexibility after all.

I'm about a third through my most recent playthrough of ME1. All I can think of right now is "God let this be over soon so I can get on with ME2". The first time I played I was in love and started a new game+ straight away, but now each time I play I like it less and less.
It still has its own charm about it, I'll admit, though it could just be nostalgia. But it's so slow paced, getting to level 60 is a job, the Mako sucks, combat is awkward, even the story, lore and world which I once thought was amazing now feels incredibly thin and bland compared to 2 and 3.
After this one, I'm not sure if I'll be able to bear another playthrough ever again. Either I'll be rushing through it as quickly as possible while only doing the main story missions and a few significant side quests, or I'll just get Genesis.
Sorry ME1, I loved you once upon a time, but that love is now lost.

Sorry ME1, I loved you once upon a time, but that love is now lost. I love ME1, but it's hard to dispute your points. The only things the game has going for it compared to its sequels are the "newness" of the worldbuilding (which obviously loses a part of its value on reruns) and the mystery of the main plot. In everything else it's inferior: combat mechanics, level design, mission design (so gameplay in general), companions...

I can relate to most of the posts on this topic. During many of my full playthroughs I've tried to steam right on and get the 1st game over with as it's the one I've played the most - I try to leave enough time in between each play through so Ithat seems fresh to me instead of the same old .
However saying that I've discovered items or cutscenes and whole new characters from my 8the , 9th and even 10th playthrough ... so it's always a welcomed surprise when that occurs.

Just finished ME1 again last night (first time on Insanity!) I enjoy it - feel it's pretty meaty. Yeah the combat is a little clunky but I get used to it. Love talking to Sovreign on Virmire and Vigil on Ilos (such awesome moments!!) It has a gritty feel to me which I like. And the voice acting across the board still stands the test of time.
But, I start looking forward to ME2 once I start on Virmire.

When I did my trilogy re-play in January I just played through the main storyline(plus the interesting main planet side quests) and put combat on easy to speed things up. Then I downloaded someone else's Shepard who had done all of the same choices + completed every side activity, and imported that into ME2 instead of my own save Saved me from having to tediously collect minerals, badges, and clear small bunkers full of enemies just to read a few lines of text telling me how everyone died before I got there
