I have Kaidan and he will be my LI also - been waiting for 3 games! Forgot he kinda has both. Hmmmm. Really wish he had some biotic CC though like Liara, she's a bit unique that way (Singularity.) Also stasis pretty good in this game too I remember. EDIT: I'm also dying pretty easily. I only have 2 in Fitness now, and picked Armor-piercing ammo as my bonus. I see Fortification and Defense Matrix talked about as well. They may help me survive a bit more. I could run with Kaidan and Liara, then Kaidan's Overload could help detonate my combos, and his Reave could detonate her combos. Am I gimping myself a lot by losing EDI's Incinerate. I don't have a 2nd fire combo besides myself then. EDIT 2: Bought the Indra for $1.99!

I was thinking the drone at Rank 6 w/ the evolution to zap a few enemies might be useful. I guess not. Could re-spec points into a level 6 Flamethrower. Dang, I liked the idea of the drones/turrets but it seems in their execution it isn't that good. I'm realizing now I'm relegated to Overload/Incin/Sabotage - is that fun enough as an Engineer? Kind of a little let down the bots aren't really useful (as people have said.) It's not too late for me to start over I guess as something else but maybe I should give it a little more time? Any suggestions? Is there a way I could get 2 squadmates that help with with Incin/Overload AND help detonate Biotic explosions. Hmmm... 1. Drone's chain lightning evolution at rank 6 is useful at zapping multiple enemies, but just do not be surprised if you find it underwhelming. If the enemy A.I. in ME3 was like the enemy A.I. in ME2 (always attack the nearest threat), then a drone and turret combo would be a whole lot of fun. But the enemy A.I. in ME3 chooses who to target based on a bunch of factors on what is considered the biggest threat, and some enemies will ignore your pets completely. 2. What is 'fun' is completely subjective. What you and I find fun -- or anyone else for that matter -- may be completely different. I find it can be fun, but moreso I just find it the most effective combination that the Engineer has at its disposal. I ran a full playthrough 'pets-only' build (combat drone, sentry turret, and defense drone) and it was effective, but I had to take some really gun shotguns to make it fun and effective. 3. Liara's Warp can detonate all types of explosions. Javik's Slam can detonate all types of explosions on unprotected enemies (enemies with no shields/barriers/armor). You could take a biotic bonus power such as Lash or Reave, although as I cautioned before, taking a detonating biotic bonus power on the Engineer will mean you will tend to avoid using any tech powers at all, making the Engineer kind of pointless. (Might as well be a Sentinel or Adept by that point).

I could run with Kaidan and Liara, then Kaidan's Overload could help detonate my combos, and his Reave could detonate her combos. Am I gimping myself a lot by losing EDI's Incinerate. I don't have a 2nd fire combo besides myself then. You are not gimping yourself that much by losing EDI's incinerate since few enemies have armor, so losing a second fire combo is not that big a deal. And if you run with a biotic bonus power, then you are gaining a biotic detonation power when paired with Liara or Javik or Kaidan, so it kind of evens out.

Just a thought, maybe dump your A/P Ammo and just put a piercing mod on your SR... re-spec with a biotic bonus power that you can use to combo with Liara when you take her with you)... that way you can get in some tech combos with Kaidan and also get in some biotic ones with Liara. I think you'll probably like the Indra better than the Viper. I recommend putting an extended barrel or concentration mod on it (to up the damage) and a piercing mod to help it pierce through those guardian shields (if you do decide to dump your A/P ammo). At level 60, you should have enough points to take everything to Level 6 except 1 skill (which will top out at Level 4) and you'll have 3 points you won't be able to use or you can have 2 skills top out at level 5 with 4 points left over. ETA: ... and since Red is too humble to link to his own video, here is his Drone Master Engineer in action: , which might give you some ideas to help make your experiences using them situationally more fun.

If you haven't already, upgrade the sentry turret to use flamethrower. It deals a lot of damage very quickly

Engineer's quite good for Insanity with your Overload and Incinerate. In ME2 everything around seems to like attacking your drone which allows you to get away quickly or pick them off. TBH... I just pick armour that looks nice and the teammates I like Silly, but I've always managed. I'm quite shallow but enjoy the challenge.

Flamethrower upgrade on turret is quite nice. Also notice it freezes enemies decently. And I have just one in drone to distract a bit.
I changed my bonus power to Defense Matrix - been helping - rank 4 now. Does slow down power recharge quite a bit, I'm up to 200% w/ just my Indra equipped. Doing the Tchuchanka missions - pretty tough. I am running EDI w/ Liara and realize they aren't great together. Looking forward to Kaidan soon.

Update: Did first Rannoch mission, did Samara's mission (love that one) and Jacob's. EDI seems pretty indespensiable as an Engineer, and that's ok cause I find her interesting. Kaidan, my LI, I wish was a little better. His Overload is good but seems like Garrus is better. I like using Tali and having two Combat Drones annoying people lol - and it's useful to stunlock some enemies.
Question: Haven't done Omega, Leviathan or Citadel. I always do Citadel right before the final push - but, do you guys do Omega/Leviathan right before Citadel? Wondering maybe from a lore perspective when it's best to do them.
P.S. Defense Matrix has been very useful as a bonus power. Getting shields back instantly AND that 25% damage bonus to tech powers is quite nice.

I usually do Omega after the coup. My usual Shepard is not too eager to help Aria out before the coup, so they don't want to spend time on this/have other priorities. However, the coup proves that Cerberus is a real threat, not only to some backwater colonies but also to the general war effort and on top of that, Shepard is pissed at them right now. So s/he decides it's time for a counter strike and hitting one of Cerberus' main staging areas with Aria's help is the way to go. So s/he goes "rogue", teams up with Aria and hits them where it hurts.
Leviathan, you could do at any time but I prefer to do it a bit later in the game (usually together with Citadel) after the Rannoch arc, so that the revelations of this DLC are still somewhat fresh during the ending. It's the last time there is a bit of a break in the narrative IMO since after Thessia, things start to happen fast.

Wondering maybe from a lore perspective when it's best to do them. Depends. I typically do it after curing/sabotaging the cure, since Tali is not available for it anyway, and once Tali is on board I complete the Rannoch arc since it makes no sense story-wise for Shepard to ignore it and go off doing other missions. Otherwise, if I want to save money on the mods, I wait until after the Ardat-Yakshi Monastery so I can get the full 10% store discount.

I usually do Leviathan right before Thessia. Shepard just wants to quickly talk to Bryson before seeing the Councilor, only to get sucked in the DLC first. I want to switch up at some point and play it earlier, but I'd always want to take my LI for the extra dialogue. Omega I never play

Update - finished all the DLC! Took all day yesterday to get through the end of Omega, Leviathan (really love the lore on that one) and Citadel. About to head to the Asari Councillor for the home stretch. Trying to finish so I can play Andromeda tonight.
One comment. MAN. Forgot how hard the beginning of Citadel is, especially on Insanity. As an engineer, I tried the first couple of sequences w/ stealth (after you crash down all the floors) and failed miserably. Had to high-tail it and just run through all the mobs. Had to do the same thing trying to get to the car lot. There's just too many mobs that flank you, and me stuck by myself with just that crappy gun. Felt impossibly. I did a mad dash and used a combat drone to stun-lock a few mobs. Took like 7 tries but then made it. Whew!

I actually had less trouble as an Eng. on insanity than as Infiltrator on hard due to one thing: Overload.

Whoop! Just finished ME3 on Insanity for the first time! Thanks to all for your wonderful and useful advice. The last fight was a bit annoying, but w/ Engineer combos (took EDI and Garrus) - I managed. Picked Destroy, almost did Synthesis - Starchild almost talked me into it lol. They sure make it seem like it's the 'best' choice. Too bad all synthetic life goes, but, that's the choice they gave us. On to Andromeda!!!!
