Impressive number of trailers... problem is, they consist of about one hour of actual, unfinished game footage, cut, rearranged and reused over and over.

What I found notable was that when they managed to release a genuinely good video - Gameplay #1 Combat - there was a whole bunch of really positive reactions that mostly drowned out the haters. They're not on an inherently losing task so long as they show actual good stuff. But kinda disappointing stuff like the IGN video just gives people a chance to go on about the fact that a punch doesn't look good when played at a low speed on an endless loop.
They really need to stop screwing around and make sure people can see good people playing the game well, and also stop being paranoid about spoilers and let us see some proper dialogue because that's a big part of what these games are about.

"Hey, remember that first long major gameplay video we should've released half a year ago but never bothered? Yes yes just let IGN handle it! Yes let them do whatever they want, send them the game, let them pick the worst player ever and make him play some of the least representative section, like one with extensive tutorial for new mechanics! No don't check on their video if it looks good! Yes, ignore the devs, the nerds obviously have no idea how to properly present their own creations, only the modern corpo elite like us know it! Yes, screw the fanbase and the internet! Yes apply for a raise for the entire team for job well done!"
so, I guess we're in the 'blame the suits' phase of denial, huh?

The game will be released in 2 weeks or so, yet BioWare's marketing team is like this: The game is a mess and they are trying to hide as much as they can or the workers are brain dead, having a job due to nepotism etc

I think the marketing team was excellent actually, things like the briefings and "How to Find Andromeda in the Night Sky" made me hype for space exploration.
The problem is the less than a month strategy. If they wanted to leave the best for the last. I would say open the MP for PC for example or they could get some hype on the art community with the romance reveals.
I really hate myself for saying this but places like IGN, PC gamer and what not are mostly hateful on the comment section, it is all about bro gamers and hypermasculinity, so maybe having a really stoic companion mission with the male version would had been better? give the Sara marketing to people that appreciate it, like TheMarySue? or they could just troll people and only shown Sara till the end.
Sometimes the fandom is wrong and this time bioware did nothing special but it not a mess either, people are just bitter over ME3 and the whole anti-sjw thing. Horizon Dawn had the same critiques about being too hand holding and so on, it was low key because the company does not have the same past.

The only trouble I have with the Marketing material is that the Briefings are not properly advertised. I always have to go to this forum to find out about them and link from here. Usually, if you browse Internet, it gives you targeted advertisement flags for the games (I still get revelation on-line banners, for gods' sake) and I wish they would paste those briefings links all over the net like this. Otherwise, the quality of the promo materials are to my satisfaction. It gave me enough information without spoiling anything in the game.
I also love this site, obviously. :)

I read some recent Glassdoor reviews from December. It looks like BioWare has been addressing it or maybe EA has (I'm never quite sure who the "management" is) but according to some of the recent ones they gave favorable scores and only listed a few cons such as "BioWare is at odds with EA about their traditional values" and one saying that EA has been tinkering with studio structure and is still doing it. In fact, I read one from December too saying that "the previous leadership has left", so I think they've been working on whatever problem there was with that.

I heard about some rumor about the reboot but was even oficial? Not sure. He was EA's Executive Producer now he's joined a Liverpool Football Club. All I know is the fans really got angry and said he had always been bad for EA. I guess time will tell if that's true.

Marketing is a two way street, the marketing team can't do anything if the game isn't ready to be seen. The 5 hour previews and the loyalty mission video were both disasters because of the content, not the way it was presented.
Also, let's drop the "it was a tutorial mission" shtick, that was an obvious lie. It was an optional loyalty mission with a stupid scanning/drone mechanic that will probably won't used anywhere else in the game.

Impressive number of trailers... problem is, they consist of about one hour of actual, unfinished game footage, cut, rearranged and reused over and over. How much do you want to see before release? If it's a 50-hour game, then 1 hour in the trailers means you've already seen 2% of the game. If they showed you 5 hours, then that would be 10%. Do you really want that much exposure beforehand? I still don't understand people's frustration with the marketing campaign. I'm as excited as anyone for the release of this game, and I think they've given us plenty!

We don't know if the marketing for this game was bad or not until after release and I doubt we fall into the category they aim for with marketing. Don't forget EA is probably being overly cautious with what content they show and when because people tried to file federal complaints and class action lawsuits about Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition. If I had to say anything on the matter is "players are constantly overreact to everything" and we are paying for it when studios stop showing us the game or interacting with us.
In all honestly would EA rather have fewer sales or a possibly multi-million dollar judgement against them like the Nvidia settlement.

Jonathan Cooper was lead animator on ME1 I think the reason for that was mentioned by a dev recently: they originally used procedural generation for the planets (like in ME1) and after testing it they found it lacking and went back make hand-mades ones instead. MEA was probably pushed back 2 years just because of that.

I was a bit motion sick when I had to scan in Witcher 3 tbh. Also about that scanning: Ian S. Frazier @tibermoon
To those who've asked: SAM is a bit more talkative than usual in this mission, because we introduce some new mechanics here & must explain. Trever Finck @trfinck
but why is peebee like, "MAYBE THEY HID IT IN THAT ROCK". supposedly that video was also AFTER the main storyline. like what? Ian S. FrazierV @tibermoon
Because that mechanic happens nowhere else in the entire game. It's new regardless of whether you play the level early or late.

It wasn't a tutorial mission, for sure, but they did say that they "tutorialized" it for the sake of the video. We definitely do more scanning in the game than that mission. We saw scanning first in a trailer way back, where Ryder seemed to be investigating a crime scene, and was using the scanner to pick up clues. It has also been said that scanning will be a much repeated process for finding and exploiting resources for crafting. I think the only aspect unique to that mission may be the tracing of the power lines to find switches and such.

To be fair, a random person playing any part of the game in some ways is more representative of the game then a tighly controlled trailer.

Yeah they (Ian mostly) talk about that on twitter. Truth be told it eased some concerns i had after whatcing the video. That being said I would have preferred that some Bioware dev had made the video, that way i am pretty sure they could actually showcase the scanning tool and some of the fighting mechanics better than the guy at the video: *He didn't talk about the omni tool scan and its uses. *He barely talked about profiles and the favorites. *And his combat skills were horrendous; powers used wrong, half shoting enemies shields, no use of power combos etcetera.

Remember the good naive days when Shinobi would reassure us the marketing is preparing a grand, meticulously-planned Fallout 4-like reveal? He's probably still right, but I guess Bioware is saving it all for last 3 weeks. Which is a bizarre decision.
