Madflavor , wasn't Peebee the squadmember who won a contest of the most hyped character so far? Her and Cora... I'll take your word for it but do you also have a link? Also I'm guessing Peebee is the most hyped character because, let's face it, she's the most pushed character by a mile. She's the first squadmate we've seen, and she's been in the majority of videos.

I just can't help but think this is 'our ' fault. Bioware as a company is known for over compensating for criticism. And what happened during the campaign for inquisition? Ninety percent of what was marketed in the game was in the game and yet bioware was called liars and that they misled the public about the game. Even though it was clear or should have been that the game was not finished. Even though the public was not even supposed to get their hands on it bioware was reamed by a lot of people. As a result we now have to deal with a marketing campaign which appears stingy, not that i blame them, and every video released now has a disclaimer. And as far as not wanting to risk spoiling things bioware spoiled major bits of Dragon age inquisitions plot via the last marketing. People complained, i being among them, so now we have them being careful about such things. I guess it's more a chicken and egg thing: If BW wouldn't always overcompensate for criticism, people wouldn't criticize them as vehemently. Sorry, but it's not the audiences job to make a companies life easier... it's on the company to decide what they are willing to listen to. Also, I doubt it's all BWs fault. My guess is they would handle their customer relations much differently if they weren't beholden to EA. i'm not saying it is. But, while i personally don't like.this strategy too much i have to recognise that from a logic standpoint, a business standpoint and a health and wellness standpoint it's probably the better approach.

Well for whatever reason. EA didn't feel much need for marketing period. Doesn't inspire confidence.

Ok that makes more sense lol. Wow this is pretty recent though, thanks for the link. I put my vote in for Cora. I think it's awesome both these characters are tied for first. It wouldn't be a good thing if one of them was heavily outvoted.

i'm not saying it is. But, while i personally don't like.this strategy too much i have to recognise that from a logic standpoint, a business standpoint and a health and wellness standpoint it's probably the better approach. What would be the alternative exactly? To just nod politely and say thank you? BW sells mass entertainment products, as consumers, we express our opinions on them. If they somehow manage to take this feedback and shoot themselves in the leg with it, that's on them. That said, I highly doubt that consumer feedback is somehow a reason for BW's failures. I'd point first and foremost to EA's attitude. Trying to make any game appeal to everyone, usually results in jacks of all trades but masters of none. i think you misunderstand my purpose. I am not criticizing you or anyone else for being skeptical. I'm skeptical. What i am saying is the marketing campaign is a direct result of the feedback they received from inquisitions campaign. While also looking at several recent examples of games who have done stingy marketing but are still selling like hotcakes. As for your second concern it does not really pertain to the issue at hand.

I had better not see a TV ad for ME:A like they did for Fallout 4... So ingame footage and not CGI Blur cinematics? No. The reverse of that. I saw a TV ad for Fallout 4 that was in-game footage not a CGI cinematic by Blur..

I don't think it is just that, a few people took their complaining too far with trying to file FCC complaints about "misleading advertising" because of a tweet about how many endings there were in Mass Effect 3, combine that with people threatening to do the same with the Crestwood video for Dragon Age: Inquisition I could see EA not wanting to risk the potential costs if they were to have been at fault. People saying they were disappointed/upset because the video they watched way back when is one thing, but the potential fines/lawsuits because of people going to the Feds is another altogether.

Hey, did that tweet actually exist in the first place. Nobody could ever show me a screengrab. I cannot be 100% certain anymore its been years which means it probably is impossible to find without spending more time or energy that I really want to spend. edit: Unfortunately I spent a few min trying to find it, but a lot of what I could find pointed back to the BSN for a summary and that is now all gone. edit2: Personally what I saw them using as "proof" are statements that are very subjective "multiple endings" or "shape the game" or comments like that and depending on how you look at it the game does follow into that pattern. It might not be what everyone expects, but I am pretty sure it would if it got to the point of legal arguments.

I think I remember the tweet in question. Not that I know any of the legal ramifications of the tweet but I remember them tweeting about the ending for ME 3, and Inquisition for that matter.

Combat was revealed - fun and ME3MP-ish. Check. Squadmates were revealed - we know how they look, s/he looks interesting, I'll use them. Check. Briefings - hype to the maximum without revealing anything significant plot or Andromeda content (e.g. a planet). Check. We're just so accustomed the 30+ spoilery trailers of other games that this low-key marketing seems bad. Sure they could have shown the ~war table and scanning... oh wait, there is another trailer coming about this and there's still one more briefing and probably a launch trailer. (exclusive IGN 'demo' - I hope this doesn't mean that we'll get a Diana Alers 2.0 )

Well, the "exploration" video hits tomorrow... we'll see what that one reveals. Because if there is one way to accurately show exploration in a game where every planet is bigger than DAI's entirety, it's in a 3 minute heavily edited video where they'll reply to every concern with "that build you saw is like a million years old. Don't worry about it. Trust us, we fixed literally everything."

Now Bioware's getting the same flack for the exact opposite reason. YOU CANNOT WIN

Madflavor , wasn't Peebee the squadmember who won a contest of the most hyped character so far? Her and Cora... Kidding? Go check number of pages in Jaal's thread! Then tell us about how 'hyped' PB or Cora is.. As for the OP - I wish I could disagree. 2 weeks before the release and all we get is the 'doctored' IGN gameplay, which makes you prair that the real game is not all like that.
Also note, that they could not even set the right tonewith their marketing efforts. It all begins with 'no, you're notthing like Shepard, you're a young rookie', 'you are not the soldiers, you're the explorers' and then it randomly shifts to 'fighting for the new home' and N7 logos slapped across everything. Now we have that 'weapons' vid, and AI arsenal seems better than what spectre Shep had dreamed about, and our 'explorer noob' Ryder can switch from engineer to adept 'on fly'.

Show not tell. & https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/5ww0eb/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_concert_avaiable_for/ It's marketing, a nice fanart, but I don't see how it's either awesome or 'for the players'. It's just a sign they like Horizon. For the record, Bioware did a similar thing when TW3 came out. Possibly CDPR as well with DAI. The marketing campaigns of both TW3 and HZD were, in my opinion, better then MEA's (but DAI's marketing was also better then the latter and on par with the formers), but that tweet and fanart means little on this topic. The Reddit link is more relevant.

YOU CANNOT WIN I remember the BSN during that time. If this sentiment existed, it was rather minor. And this is no more than a straw-man argument anyway.Personally, I think that it's less the marketing and more about ME:A itself. I haven't really seen anything that made me excited about ME:A. It's either stuff I have a negative opinion about, or just generic unexciting elements that likely won't be enough to make ME:A anything more than yet another average/mediocre game. I don't even remember people complaining about getting too much info. And hey, if someone wants a surprise, maybe just simply avoid any reveals and trailers and leave them to people who want to know what they're buying? Right now I can't buy ME:A because I simply don't know what to expect. I need more reveals.
