Rock, Paper, Shotgun critical Preview and Skill Up response

Yeah, I don't give any weight to what John Walker says after his frankly terrible review of Walking Dead: A New Frontier, in which he completely misses the point at every turn. Having read other reviews to see what he's like, he doesn't like anything that is popular

Barely a review.

I don't go to Rock Paper Shotgun, but I clicked on a steam article link for that very review.

I remember thinking this was one very salty reviewer that took any valid points they may have had and then just beat it to death with overzealous writing and hyperbole. 

For some reason my brain must have tucked that name away, because after reading just a paragraph or two of this new review I thought "this must be that Walker guy..." Sure enough it is.

I'm all for honest reviews or negative reviews. You'll never see me be upset that someone didn't rate a game the way I wanted it or think it should because it's all pretty subjective. 

That being said, I don't think this guy and I would see eye to eye on anything from the looks of it. 

All those people sad they ordered it or won't now... wow... I am glad I judge for myself instead of then listen to someone who just doesn't get it. The Internet is filled with so many gullible and innocent people who believe every review is the word of God.

John Walker is generally a pretty good reviewer, and gives his honest opinion.
If he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. That's life.

I put little stock into reviews. Even less so when they're just demo reviews.

It was bound to happen to get unfavourable reviews.

Personally I'll see how much I enjoy the opening hours with the early access trial.

I have some sympathy, because he uses the same overblown style I do when I'm trying to put the boot into something. It only looks reasonable on the second pass when I back, simplify the verbs and edit out as many adverbs and adjectives as possible. Then again I don't write to entertain people, I guess the rules differ.

Well he seems to really not like it.

Yeah it's life, no one is disputing it. I think anyone in the thread commenting about the review is more or less commenting on his style of writing. 

Guy seems to be trying waay too hard for a first impression review.

The Issue i have with this"(P)review" is it goes completly against many, many other Previews that have been released after the Press Hands on Session..

Nearly all of them wrote of interesting characters, decent to good writing and memorable Side Quests


Also one huge issue is that he does not even seems to try to be objective.. Even as you are subjectivly disapointed with a Game as a Reviewer its still your job to still list the good sides. No Game is horrible only. He does not even try..

But i have to say i think ME:A could actually be pretty polarizing.. I watched the whole first hour and its true the "tone" is very unique.. lighter in many spots and a bit more over the top. I guess there will be many people who simply cant stand the new tone.
