Well...I've heard some variant of "really bad writing" from two reviews now. Of all things, this does not surprise me in the least. We'll see, but the probability is increasing that MEA is not for me. Edit: Also, some variant of "everyone's acting and speaking stupid". The master's hand is showing Two recvies out of how many that you've read?

I don't quite follow that. It's alien technology they don't understand, right? What's the problem with those lines? The "alien gods" line was irony. From your other posts, I've formed the impression that you don't pick up on that very well. Is English not your first language, perhaps? Srsly? We have ways of explaining how things float now. We have ways of explaining how things work now, without the need to bring alien gods into it. It's not irony, at least from my point of view. If you want to buy and enjoy the game, hey man. I'm all for it. DA4 here you come.

I'm all for it. DA4 here you come. You're simply misinterpreting the line. If you want to stick with a bad interpretation that's your right, but it's a mistake. (Unless your goal in interpretation is to make the game worse than a sensible interpretation would; if that's the goal, you're doing fine.) The tone should have been the clue; Sara's not actually expressing concern about alien gods of the underworld there. Liam is, but there's a common conversational thing (in North America, anyway) where talking about ridiculous impossible bad things is a bad idea because it makes them more likely. Again, irony, since people don't really believe that -- although it sometimes works in fiction. (Another way of approaching the concept is that the text is nonsense but the subtext isn't; Sara and Liam are discussing the emotional reality of the situation without talking about the physical reality.) I suppose this raises the question of whether the writers should avoid irony.

From RPS: www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/03/20/mass-effect-andromeda-review/#more-436013"Perhaps most significantly, they made the bold decision to remove good/evil responses that have been a mainstay of the developers’ RPGs, but they’ve failed to replace them with anything close to as meaningful. As a result, they’ve essentially removed the majority of choice at all. At one point you’re offered an extremely significant deal that contains an element that’s tantamount to extortion. In any other BioWare game before you’d argue this, perhaps choose it as the lesser of two evils, or reject it based on principle. Here you get two choices: to accept it, or accept it while making a joke. It’s quite bizarre how far they’ve gone in removing the illusion of autonomy, while still seeming to think they’re offering dialogue choice." This game could have all the content in the world... but I'd rather have less content if it meant having actual, meaningful choices that carried impact... again. Just my opinion as a huge fan of this series' past.

Yep, there's already a thread for that. (moving) Cheers - although my main point disappears in this dense thread. Easier to sweep complaints and disappointments under the rug this way, I suppose.

If you have a point to make independent of this week old preview article (which was discussed at length), be my guest.

Cheers - although my main point disappears in this dense thread. Easier to sweep complaints and disappointments under the rug this way, I suppose. If you have a point to make independent of this week old preview article (which was discussed at length), be my guest. I feel like my point regarding there being an 'illusion' of choice as opposed to actual choices, was largely independent of the conversations on pages 9-10 of this thread. My point was not discussed at length. The majority of posts in this thread are scattershot meanderings in (justifiable) defense of a game no one had yet played. But hiding my post in this thread is actually on point - as this forum presents the illusion of choice regarding the threads we make, (unless they're positive), where they're funneled into existing threads, resulting in zero effect - just like in the game.
