I'd give it a 6.5 so far, though I had a lot of fun, weirdly. There are just a lot of technical hiccups and tedious bits dragging things down. It doesn't really help that the game has a really... sluggish start. But the trial didn't really delve into the meat of the game, which is the dialog and story. So I'll reserve final judgement. Can't go about regretting the preorder til I've run out of chances for a refund.

You're seriously complaining about a manual save feature? I'll take weapon holstering over quick save as a button on the controller any day. Don't be lazy and press pause "You're complaining about a feature that every other game has had but this one removed it, along with a bunch of other game features, for no apparent reason?" Yeah. What button on the Xbox or PS3 controller is used for quick save in ME1 and ME2?

Oh please, that's like arguing that complaints about only three hotkeys aren't valid because you can't hotkey as much on a console as you can on a PC.

What button on the Xbox or PS3 controller is used for quick save in ME1 and ME2? Back? I don't know. I play on PC It didn't exist. And pc as amazing as it is caters to a minority of players. ME3 replaced the holster button with quick save. Replacing function with an action that can used as auto save or manual save is poor design.

Replacing function with an action that can used as auto save or manual save is poor design. This would be slightly less dumb if they didn't have all these features in ME3 on PC so the literally removed it because they're lazy, which continues a trend from DAI and also kinda relates to a lot of people's problems with this game. And if you're to believe Bioware, DAI on PC was their big huge mega driving force of sales. Good on them for screwing those customers.

Replacing function with an action that can used as auto save or manual save is poor design. Regardless of how you feel about quicksaves (which, after being in just about every DA or ME game since 2007), the removal of the player's ability to save during priority missions is bonkers.

First of all: I'm glad that this poll kind of sticks it to the negative vocal minority. Here's a lesson, just because you see 20 posts by the same guys saying how bad it is, that doesn't mean that everyone feels that way, or that you should be worried about forming your own opinion. Statistics @ 17/03/2017 Average: 86% Median: 90%
Second: Now that I’ve played for more than 5 hours, I’m ready to give a provisionary review. I’ll try to keep it spoiler-free and chronological. Skip to the final paragraph for absolutely no spoilers.
The first thing you see is the character creator. People don’t like this, but I couldn’t give 2 toots about this. I just chose the default appearance. The default kind of matches the overall tone of the game (new beginning), so it’s pretty ok. But I understand people being frustrated at this. Afterwards, you get launched into your adventure and the prologue mission. I was immediately sucked in. The setting is just so… Mass Effect. And that’s a feeling that’s held throughout my following hours. The prologue does a good job of setting you up with all new mechanics of the game. It introduces you to the characters, shows you the new worlds (which are INCREDIBLY crafted, they look gorgeous). Also, you have multiple paths, even in the prologue! It also introduces you to the new gameplay, which is easily the game’s main selling point. It takes some getting used to if you played the OT a lot, but this can really make it on its own. The skills are all well thought out (immediately invest in the incinerate + overload combo, hilarious!). And you can already see that your character will evolve really well over the course of the game. The gameplay and rpg mechanics are the game’s best feature. And ultimately, that’s why you play a game, and not say, watch a movie.
Now then, after the prologue, you end up on the Nexus. There you start meeting people. Again, the story and tone of the game remain very mass effect-ey, and that is good. Here you also start to get some sidequests, and I must honestly say that even the sidequests make you care. Every single quest up until now just makes you want to find out where it goes. However, here is also where the critics will start to nag, because of the animations and faces. Yes, they’re not that good. However, I can honestly say that after spending, like, 2 hours on the nexus I’m used to them. Also, aliens actually do have good animations. It’s just humans which are weird. Overall, I get why people criticise them, but they don’t really bother me.
Anyway, after socialising on the Nexus, you get your special moment with your new ship. And boy. What a moment. If you haven’t felt the mass effect vibe by then, you’ll have it now. I’m loving this new baby. It seems smaller inside, but honestly, it’s just a lot more streamlined. It doesn’t need to be big. Here you’re also introduced to research and crafting, which is once again, a very good system. I didn’t actually think bioware could make such a good crafting system. One note though: scanning for research and minerals might get repetitive for some, if they want to unlock everything. But then again, that’s your choice. I’m mainly focusing on upgrading my mattock and revenant. Damn the rest to heck. In any case, you get to meet more of your crew, flirt around a bit, and then you are introduced to the galaxy map. By god, they’ve outdone themselves. It is just so… soothing to… just fly around Heleus for a bit. Listening to the music. Reading planet histories. So relaxing and so… mass effect. One point of criticism however, is that if you want to scan and visit planets fast, that’s not happening. To find everything (minerals etc), it might get repetitive to probe every planet. But then again, that’s up to the player. If you want to go through the game fast, nobody’s stopping you.
I ended my session by landing on Eos, and was confronted with a new mystery. I’m dying to find out more about it, and learn more about the characters in my team! Bioware really seemed to have done the characters right! Can’t wait ‘till I can play again.
TL;DR. Yes, the criticism about the animations is correct (but only on humans, not aliens). Hopefully, it’ll be patched at some point. But it’s not really intrusive or immersion breaking to me, personally. Everything else from gameplay to RPG mechanics; from voice acting (REALLY well done, kudos!), to story and characters; from the galaxy map to the world environments… is SU-perb. I’m loving this game and will lose a lot of hours in it.
Voted: 85% for now. If the animations get fixed, It’ll move up to 90 or 95%.
Bonus: I’ll post the builds I’ll have in mind: Favorite 1: Explorer with singularity, incinerate and overload (combo machine) Favorite 2: Infiltrator with tactical cloak, concussive shot and turbocharge (weapons meister) Favorite 3: Vanguard with charge (duh), nova (double duh) and tactical cloak (melee ninja)

I only played the MP as I want to save the story for the full release but I can honestly say I had a blast on it. I played with my friend for hours and we felt like complete noobs but we were very happy with what we played, we even managed to extract, once! I went for 95% as there is always room for a little improvement

I played the trial on Xbox One and I've gone with 85%. It's not perfect but it is Mass Effect and overall what really matters most to me is the characters and the story. I was completely engrossed when I hit the gated part of the critical path. The next few days are going to pass incredibly slowly whilst I wait for the official release.

I usually tend to avoid trying to simply give a number as an opinion on a game is a complex thing that can't really just be boiled down to a single number, but so far I'd go 80-85 if I had to pick something.
I posted a much longer impressions in Ian's feedback thread, but the short of it was that after around 2 hours of MP and SP each while I enjoyed a lot of aspects of the game it gets a bit bogged down by technical issues such as poor performance, facial animations, lag in virtually every MP game, etc.

I gave it a 90%. The CC is just such a total fail. I tried to stay positive about it, but I couldn't.
I like pretty much everything else, though I have had some graphical issues I hope will be cleared up once I get a new GPU & RAM installed.

I gave it 95%. I enjoy what I've played of the story (that's what I like to play games for) and plan to give the multiplayer a go at somepoint before release. I'm in the UK so I have until the 23rd with about 5hours left on the trial. Yes their are bugs and bad animations. But if you try not to let them get to you (I know some can't, and this is my opinion) it is still really enjoyable. One I can't ignore is in the spoiler bracket for those who have played it and are intrested or those that dont mind a minor spoiler: In one scene, Peebee defends Ryder by firing a pistol. Yes that does not sound bad right, except...
She fires it backwards. The bullet comes out of the back of the gun. The CC is not the best, I am hoping they update it at some point, but I will not get my hopes up. I have managed to make a Scott Ryder I am happy with and spent around 40mins (probably more) in the CC with Sara and was able to make various faces I liked but I couldn't decide which to use and realised I had wasted a fair ammount of time doing so. All in all. I like it. I would say if you like Mass Effect give it a shot. If bad animations bother you etc, I would say wait and see if there is a patch. Hope this helps.

70-80 (so um 75 if I had to) for the trial content. Have not landed on Eos yet though, and that could flavor a lot of impressions.
Could easily go 80s with fixes, feature updates, quality DLC. But sadly some of these fixes may have to be too substantial for what we usually get from Bioware...
Might go 90s with the above requirements plus some more super appealing stuff being in the campaign, but so far, the hope for 90s has diminished in the recent days/weeks.
Sad to see a 70s anywhere near something Mass Effect though. While there's stuff I see that's better than anything previous in the series, there's other, sometimes CORE stuff, that disappoints.
Basically MEA could still be great, but so far is just good or very good.
(For reference, I'd generally give ME1 a 80, ME2 a 90, ME3 a 85 for their times. Mass Effect has never reached the heights that I think it can, while it also is the series I'm most attached to nonetheless. I hope MEA is at least going to be a better game for me than ME3 was in its time (2012-2013).)
(EDIT: I also want to note that I haven't loved the first hours of any Mass Effect. So my 70-80 could VERY easily become a range more like 75-85, 80-90 or whatever.)

Hmm those that rate it much higher than 80% are in the lead but the only commentators here are those that score well below that. Odd that. What's to say about it? I voted 95% Why so high with the scoring you might ask? Yah I know some of the facial & animation are a bit whack, but that is par for the course for Bioware. I rated it this way because how it played and looked, and most importantly if it lived up to the ME name. It did. Simple as that XD. What teaser bit of story we got from early access left me hungry for more and the ambient conversations are boss. The biggest thing was the game-play...they raised the bar and nailed it for the most part.

At the moment for me it would be 85% I'm enjoying the game greatly, for me story, characters, combat and exploration are all great. However like most games these days it gets knocked down a bit for technical issues. Hopefully it doesn't take them too long to get more patches out to fix some of these. Would easily bump my score up more once those are fixed/adjusted

The bad things in ME:A are the animation and some heavy UI/farm stuff related. Knowing those problems I can say they can be easily overlooked, at least from me.
The beginning is very good and beside nitpicking I had a great 10 hours trial with nothing I found repealing, i can't wait 23th. I mean there is still planet scanning but I gave up on the matter.
I will give the trial version 80, because it is very promising, I could have given a higher note I would have given a mass effect game (80-95) because I love ME games for their story and character development and I can't judge that for now, sure look good but it is only the beginning. If the story is as great as the previous ones it will be close to 90-95, after all the gameplay experience is better than before. Knowing that mass effect is gone from a 'meh shooter part' to a "great shooter part" is a good example. I am still on the fence for open world mechanic, not sure if it makes the game more or less enjoyable than the previous one.
However, a poll based on pre-order review is biased. Those who pre-order are most likely already sold on the game and those who are not sold on the game probably did not pre-order it. Still it won't prevent them from giving a review despite not testing it.
