What's frustrating about this trial is it only gives me a hint of what's to come. Hopefully it will pick on very soon. I was disappointed to hear lame lines like "I think I pissed that one off. Maybe because I shot him in the face!", but the Archon's intro cutscene really gave me hope for the potential of the new setting. The facial animations are definitely distracting on the human part, but I find the aliens to be just fine. I also quite enjoy the personality of Drack and Vetra. You can always count on Krogans to make an impressive entrance. I hope Vetra's voice to be more synthetic though. I voted for an 80%.

I gave it an 90. Pretty much the same complaints as others (CC, animations). Other than that the game is great.

I think ten hours is not enough to judge a game like this. The game was starting to gel for me really nicely on the first planet when I hit the story wall. What the trial covered feels like the equivalent of if ME 1 had a trial period that covered Eden Prime, The Citadel, and Therum (but stops after the armature fight before we go into the bunker).

Voted 85%, but we're close to 90. Some minor issues aside from the three glaringly obvious (CC, no save on crit missions, clown makeup), but overall I wanted to play more as soon as the trial was over.

My personal niggles... Honestly, 10 hours is not long enough. I'm also concerned at suggestions that some things will be 'better' when patched in for release (CC??), since one of the selling points of Origin Access trials is that you "get to continue where you left off" when you purchase the game. Does this mean I'll be starting again at release anyways, since they will fix [insert feature here] for release?
That said, I didn't have any technical issues running it on PC. I ran at just below Recommended specs, and still manage to auto-detect at HIGH detail for the graphics. Story seemed good, game seemed good, and I picked up gameplay features I needed as I went. Smacked hard into that 'story gate' though...
One other bug. There were a couple of characters (a certain salvager and a certain Asari) who had inanimate duplicates standing in places where they shouldn't be. Glitch much?

I generally play Bioware games for the characters and stories. So far I know little of that, but I've enjoyed the combat for once. I think the graphics are great, I like the "mako", I love the tempest, hate the cc, inconsistent facial animations (sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes lacking altogether), the music isn't as great as the previous ones, and it's buggy. But I was enjoying the time I got. I give it 7/10, which I hope will get better when I get to see more of the story and get to know the characters more.

I'd give it a temporary 80%.
The begining is very, very contrived. Clearly, the initiative hired the worst ARK pilots possible for their endeavour if none of them could spot and avoid the scourge in time. I don't like the "I wanted adventure, but now that I'm in trouble, I just realized I can't go back' tone that some NPCs have (Tempest mechanic). Yeah, no shit Sherlock! Those are inconsistencies that already annoyed me in ME2, but I can get past this, as I did back then. Besides, I'd be hard-pressed to name a SP game I've played where the plot made little sense at some point (because gameplay!).
The UI is... very cluttered. I'd have preferred something simpler, and a good old minimap.
The CC is disappointing, indeed. I still managed to make a satisfying enough character in the little time I spent there though. Found out that as suspected, having eyebrows closer to the eyes, and the eyes themselves a little deeper into the skull prevents the perpetual wide-eyed wonder look I've seen with most other FRyder on youtube. In short, go neanderthal. It has definitely helped make most of FRyder's facial animations tolerable for me.
VAs and dialogues are mostly good so far, except for Addison. I get that I'm supposed to dislike her, but I don't think it's supposed to be about how disjointed her lines are.
There are NPCs that I liked right off the bat (Tempest pilot, Dr. Lexi), some I've disliked right off the bat too (Tann, Addison) which is what was clearly intended, and many others I have yet to determine how to feel about. So far, pretty standard for BW games.
I haven't had any of the graphical/technical bugs other have reported. It has actually been a pretty smooth ride. For reference, I have a MSI GTX 1070, and 20 gb in RAM. Definitely better optimized than For Honor (I do think that having less detailed textures for characters has something to do with it).
The environments are beautiful. Scanning actually wasn't a chore. I enjoy uncovering the Heleus Cluster.
The combat is fun and very responsive. I love the new mobility. They did a good job there. I just wish that when I charged someone, it actually felt like they were taking the full brunt of a grown human being flying at FTL speed in the face. So far, only low tier grunts get staggered. Same for weapons, I don't feel much 'weight' in their impact, but then, I only used the Lancer 1, Predator 1, and Katana 1 (I only noticed at the very end of the trial that I had actually looted a Valkyrie...). Other weapons might provide this sense of impact. It might be due to the low level of my powers and weapons while playing on Insanity though. On that note, the difficulty level feels adequate. Insanity IS challenging. At least for me. It remains to be seen if it will be consistent throughout the whole game.
MP. Lot of rubber-banding to be had. When I found a good host, it went well. While I love the new mobility, as previously stated, I kind of mourn the different dodges (or no dodge for Krogans) back in ME3MP. It made the different species feel unique and a bit distinctive, as were the different melees. I suppose in the case of melees, it will be more kit-oriented than species-oriented this time around. Muting everyone is a must do. Not that I encountered any troll or whatever, but listening to a guy monologuing without pause in spanish during the whole game was a bit tiring. It's not like that game needs communication anyway, unlike Overwatch, unless you're playing with friends.
I know my assessment might look more negative than positive overall, but despite the misgivings stated here, I still find myself wanting to know more about the story. I want to uncover the mysteries that are hinted at (and I hope that they are worth it). I want to know more about my crew, and what happened to the other ARKs. It does help that I find the combat fun (and that it's what matters most to me, for any game), and am looking forward to experimenting with new guns and powers combinations. I also like the generally more hopeful and colorful tone of the game.

This thread tells me where I definitely cannot turn for unbiased, level-headed reviews of BioWare games. I love this IP as much as anyone, and really want it to succeed. I'd put my time invested in the OT up against anyone's. That said, "95%" running away with the voting? I can't remember the last time I played a game that close to perfect. MEA is nowhere near perfect, as its myriad, undeniable issues clearly demonstrate. Fun? Sure. Perfect? No. It's well short of that. I'm going to go back into exile before this stuff being smoked around here does any permanent damage. What--people have biased opinions?!? For the "outraged at high marks" crowd--keep in mind we're judging the first 10 hours, not THE ENTIRE GAME. So far, minus the lack of manual saving (in the prologue at least), it's certainly mashed (from the South, sorry) all the right buttons with me. I know, I know, that's not what some of you more objective, detached, level-headed folks want to hear. How about: Somethingsomething wurst animayshunz since Hitler. Better? Nope. That's just as useless, and far less enjoyable to read. Obviously, I greatly enjoy reading others' positive experiences with these games, or I wouldn't be a continuous member of the now fourth iteration of this forum. Still, the best feedback is balanced, carefully considered feedback. My post was intended to provoke thought, not a freak-out. You can relax.

I'll be honest. I only made it at the nexus before quitting and going to sleep. Objectively shit things in MEA >shit-tier CC meaning that you can't play the character you want unless you want him/her to look off and supremely not alpha >contrived stuff with father >not enough dialogue options except when you're getting info dumps >Scott is a defined character....is this a Bioware game? What happened biodrones? >horrible facial animations, the worst offender being Addison >Director Tann VA is Jessica chobot bad >retarded stuff with the genophage and doing gene therapy while in stasis! >the reason we go to andromeda is still contrived and badly written, geth tri-relay stuff is plainly retarded >some optimization issues >how we become "special" is contrived Objectively good things about MEA >combat is great >jet pack is patrician tier >graphics are high quality >sense of adventure is still there >MEA is a mass Effect game >game is better optimized than DAI at launch for PC for mid-gaming rigs, i expect more patches and optimization in the future Subjective >I don't like the new cover system >weapons aren't hard hitting I'm the only person entitled to an objective opinion. Change your remarks to reflect the subjective nature of all your points or you will be fined.

I wrote a review of the trial, giving it a 7.5, so I give it 75% here. ME:A is a lot of fun and, at least in the trial, it provided a healthy amount of non-filler sidequests. I enjoyed the combat, thought it's a little chaotic at times and there is a LOT to do that's not just busywork. Downsides, character creator, animations, disconnected dialogue and a general feeling of the game being unpolished (sometimes unfinished).

I'm on Eos with only about an hour left in my trial so I thought I would give my 2c. I went into the game a bit worried by all of the negativity but just about everything has exceeded my expectations. The criticisms about facial animations are valid to a point. However this game looks amazing (pc, high settings) - the environments, the vehicles, the spacescapes, *most* of the character designs... so absorbing. And most of the animations are at least solid. Playing as default Scott so I haven't had to worry about the CC. The writing is generally decent, with the exception of a few corny one liners and a bit too much exposition for some of the NPCs. Small complaints (and standard Bioware fare) really. The setting and the story are intriguing and I love the way that Alec and SAM have been woven into the game. My only real gripe is that I haven had a chance to know my sibling yet, so I'm finding it a bit hard to care about her wellbeing. Characters are great, on the whole. Loving Lexi, Cora, Suvi, Kallo and Vetra. Only just met Peebee but she's nowhere near as annoying as I thought she would be. Liam is a little OTT, although I've enjoyed his conversations on the Tempest. Gil is a little full of himself. I like the new dialogue system too. I've heard some complaints about how there are often only two choices but in the bigger moments there are four. I haven't felt like I'm missing out on any options, although Ryder definitely seems to have more of a pre-developed character than Shepard. To me, that seems like a fair trade off because I feel that Ryder has more personality than Shep ever did. Combat is fun, tho I do miss the tactical pause option and squad power use commands. Enemy AI seems good - the Kett move pretty quickly between cover and try to flank you. Overall, I'm loving it so far. Feels very Mass Effect while also very new, and I strongly disagree with the whole 'DAI in space' thing that is being perpetuated. So much fun! 9/10 A couple of stray thoughts: There is an in-game explanation as to why the Nomad doesn't have weapons: It starts out as the colonists' rover, not the Pathfinder's. That might not appease everyone. Works for me tho. Also, I've heard lost of complaints about the CC being limited to variations on presets. I just wonder if this was a deliberate thing to help players make a family that actually looks like a family. From what I've seen it seems like each male preset has a twin female preset.

Based on the early access I would definitely recommend the game, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize the pretty serious flaws that still exist. The single player is pretty solid, but the multiplayer is still plagued by bugs.

I'd say "room to improve". Some parts are as pretty and impressive as anything I've ever played. Others are reminiscent of games I played 15-20 years ago. It's an odd mix of a game thus far, which makes me think it was rushed. Some things are simply so obviously either ignored or in what should be alpha testing that I cannot fathom them being overlooked, as it were. It has to have been pushed to make a release date.

While I don't like numerical scores, I'll give it a 75... I retract points for the quality/tone of the writing (so far), the animations, the clunky UI and unwieldy space travel/scanning. I like the art style, world/armor designs, atmosphere/sound, crafting and combat - although the controls can be a bit jerky. If the story and writing doesn't pick up later, the score could go down... ...and no, floating rocks don't make an alien world creative, no matter how often you mention them. This, word for word, except I found the atmosphere lacking on Hyperion and Nexus. And for God's sake give an option for increasing the text size.

Based on my experience from the 10hr trial I would give it a solid 80, really it's a shame the cc, ui, and animations are so awful otherwise this game could easily be a 90 imo.

About an 8/10 for me. I've enjoyed what I have played so far but, there are issues that I can't just gloss over. All of my EA access time was in single player(I'll play MP on Tuesday).
Pros: -Graphics are amazing, environments seem vibrant, expansive, and atmospheric. Even space seem amazing traveling through it. -Combat is much improved and a blast. -Story seems intriguing so far and want to see more of it. -Great not being restricted to just one role anymore. -Amazing driving mechanics finally!
Cons: -FPS going in between 30's and 130's(Hope Day-1 Patch fixes those issues.) -Some NPC's look generic and almost cookie-cutted. -Character creation seems like a step back from Inquisition -Body and facial animations are not what I'd expect. Vague and lifeless sometimes. -UI and menu's need more streamlining, can get frustrating looking around sometimes. -Weird bugs:slowdown "Baywatch" effect when I go in and out of menus sometimes, infinite cooldown period. (Alt+tab'ing fixed issue) -Some random CTD's that appeared at random and at different places.

And ... the trial ended for me this morning... So abruptly Haven't changed my opinion though. 85% now, maybe 90 if they fix the bugs. 95 if they cater to the CC and stuff like that. BUT! I'm really anxious for thursday now! Can't wait! Also, I'm going to have to respec my character, now I better know how everything works :/ Anyone know where I can do this? I've heard med-bay, but can't find it...
