I do tell jokes at funerals though because there is no law stating you can't. I don't believe in the appropriate place and time tradition. I think a lot of what we consider to be normal is actually fucked up and all wrong. Lol. This again I think most reasonable people would consider someone telling jokes at a funeral to a weeping widow as being - insensitive; indifferent; unsympathetic and possible has something wrong with them. Did you crack jokes at 9/11 or what happened in November in France? There's definitely a time and a place. You may not be but you do come off as a jerk when you say the things you do. I am a jerk though a lot of times because I don't have any problem speaking my mind, or doing my own thing. I have no problem being called that. No, for 9/11 I was too young for that to set in, and for the attacks. I have no clue what you are talking about. I don't watch the news nor care for it anymore not unless it effects me. Like I told you or someone else earlier, in the end of the day only my opinion counts. If you say, I may start fights this way. I conceal carry, so I am not worried about fights.

Don't you think part of the charm of Ryder is his ineptitude at first?! Like I totally agree I'd be shitting my pants if i was on the nexus and this goofy 22yr old kid was my only hope of survival.
But the boy done good. He delivers and his cheesy charm is kinda contagious as we get into the game.
'Well scan them back.'

Does Ryder get the choice of pushing an Eclipse Merc out of window or not like in ME2? If not, then it's another reason I won't be buying yet! **Edit It's always out of the window for me btw ** You get to tell a bad guy that, "you will fuck their shit up" and get to Renegade style shoot them afterwards, does that count?

After many and many hours of reflexion and meditation about the topic matter i reached to a conclusion. Ryder is the result of the ME3 end complains. They gave us a kid with an happy face. So..its our fault

Just by the way, I think Shepard's renegade line if you don't throw the merc out the window is way better than the interrupt: "If I throw you out that window, do you think you will hear the sound of you splashing on the pavement before you die?"

This is how I see it: Cmdr. Shepard is Batman. Pathfinder Ryder is Spider-Man. Both work and I'm OK with that. (I do wish that in future games we get more options to make Ryder an asshole or angry, simply because more options are always good.) CMD Shepard = Captain Sheridan Ryder = Cassian Andor Babylon 5 for the win!

Playing male Ryder, I feel like if you mixed casual, compassion and took all the flirt options you'd end up with a half John Crichton (from Farscape particularly the jokes) and half James Kirk.
Overall, I'm cool with Ryder. It was going to be difficult replacing the beloved Shepherd no matter what direction Bioware went with. Making everyone happy was going to be impossible.

I'm glad that they're different characters. I may prefer Shepard, because I feel he's closer to me, but I don't think I'd be happy with another clone of him in this game.

I'm really liking Ryder. Ryder is pretty awesome. It is true about the limit of range, and how you can't seem to get pissed, or be firm. If there is a sequel, however, with the same protag and characters, we might see an evolution of the character. One that goes from this younger version, a bit more lighthearted--maybe not entirely comfortable with their authority, or using their authoritative Voice yet?
In the next game we might have more options like that as the character grows and evolves. Your Voice changes over your life. If they do have a sequel with the same PC, I hope they add much more firm, authoritative options. I love the casual tone. Love it! Some good humor, etc, but sometimes you need a different tone for a situation.

Definitely keep the light hearted options. Just add more range. I'm a huge fan of the lighthearted/sarcastic options.

More casual, for me, often more sarcastic, and refreshingly profane at times. "Is everyone on this planet a lying asshole?" I was in tears. I can't stand her/him... Only thing people will agree on is that Ryder is divisive. The Ryders can be pretty good characters if you play them professional and logical. I intend on playing a casual / emotional character on my next playthrough to compare. So far, I like my nerdy Scott Ryder.

Preferred playing as Shepard.
Much more dominant personality. As alpha as it gets for the sci fi genre.
Ryder looks like the boy band edition of Ben Affleck.

There's certainly a level of schizophrenia to Ryder's personality in the game. For the most part you are required to be diplomatic and a boy scout. But then there are a scattering of scenes, where you can "do bad things." Most of them just involve swearing, but there's a couple, like Draak's loyalty mission, where you can actually let Draak kill someone. I really miss the Renegade options, I feel the storytelling is weaker without the paragon/renegade. Except for a few exceptions, it just feels like Paragon and Paragon Sarcasm in this game.

Extremist Shepard saw things in black or white. Ryder's balanced personality feels boring in comparison. The latter is like the person most people like but few love or hate. Strong personality protagonists are better for stories. You either love em right off the bat or learn to love due to all the time playing as them. You're right. Rene/Para was a great feature they should have retained. Just without skill point investments. But Bio really went off the deep end with this whole exploratory freedom of choice crap by giving us 4 fairly neutral options for most situations. The trilogy's choices > this game's options.

I was 34 when I first played as Shephard, and she was great in a 80's Arnie style. I am 37 now and I prefer FemRyder to Shep. Age has nothing to do with it. 36 years and I really liked playing FemShep in the trilogy and I really like playing FemRyder in Andromeda. They are both great in their respective stories. I can always go back to FemShep, got all the dlc and plenty of hours have been spent with her. Now I want to continue with FemRyder! She is great have played her as emotional + professional and it was a really good experience. Will try lighthearted next time. I would say that FemRyder suits me better as a person. If she gets a lot more dlc and maybe an expansion or a continuing game I will be over the moon. It is a little bit jarring to switch protagonist every game like they do in Dragon Age. You just get to know every one and then it is time to switch cast again so I hope they won't start with that in Mass Effect as well.

Shepard fit the part perfectly. Strict, disciplined and professional, so when she/he was funny or emotional it really hit the mark. Everyone took Shep seriously.
Ryder's on the other hand are more like kids fresh out of high-school. They feel totally out of place in the scenario and would be more suited to smoking pot. I just can't take them seriously, and to give them a state-of-the-art scout ship, ha! Maybe I would stretch it to a new skateboard.

Shepard is a hardened vet who has been considered to be a spectre whereas Ryder is a kid who had the postion of pathfinder thrusted onto them
