I love him because he's manipulative and morally duplitious. Like really I love me some relationships with people who aren't morally uptight but they still like each other and make it work (and are each other's weak point and show a softer side to their partner). I dig ships like that so bad.
I really wish he was a companion though he'd gotten a lot more dialogue if he had been.

Reyes at 69 votes, I've joined this thread at the perfect time. I'm still on my first run with Peebs, great fun so far, would woo again.

I honestly don't get what people see in Reyes. I mean he is charming but also manipulative, by the end of his arch I still liked him but don't trust him enough to romance him. Personally, after learning how much Ryder means to her during her romance, I don't know how I'll pass up Peebee during my next playthrough. Like I want that trophy, but also, I love her. edit: Typos Because he's a really interesting character, for me best in the game by far. Because it's apparent that he cares and wants to be seen in a different light by Ryder. Because he's also trying to prevent a full-scale war and do what needs to be done and my Ryder can respect that, recognising that things are not so black and white. And because he's hot and the chemistry between them is fabulous.

I thought he was hilarious. His entire personality is a cliche, and the story and dialogue runs with it and has fun with it. It walked the line of a parody version of an over-the-top sleazy romance - so if you like that kind of thing straight (so to speak) it's there for those people, and if you like it as parody (which I did) it's fun for that reason. Obviously if you're not a fan of either of those styles of story/character he's not going to be your favourite, but he's pretty clearly written with those two types in mind.

I suspect (and this time hope to be right about it) Reyes can play a more serious role in the next game (if that game will ever be made). Or they'll make a DLC about him. Just hope they will not forget about those of us who appreciated him before "it become mainstream" (some acknowledgement of the romance).

Jaal, so far. He's not at all what I'd normally go for but he won me over somehow. I do find the Solas comparisons a little weird, lol, I've seen them in multiple places. I couldn't stand Solas and personally didn't really get the fuss over his romance, other than the reveal you've been fucking a morally questionable, truth-adjacent demigod the whole time. If they'd seemed at all similar to me I'd never have gone for Jaal, tbh.
Garrus, Isabela, Zevran and Iron Bull are my previous faves. I probably would have hopped on the Reyes train if he'd been a squadmate, tbh, I like a good scoundrel.

OTOH I also don't play self inserts and I have weird tastes. The perfect Reyes romance ending for me would have been:
- in this iteration Reyes is slightly more villainous - you two have taken out Sloan - but you can't reconcile - sides and circumstance demand that one of you has to lose - he loves you - but he loves his ambition more - he knows this - you know this - he beckons, inviting you to a last dance - it starts to rain (melodramatic remember?) - you dance - no one says anything - an interrupt: - stab Reyes - you do not take it - the dance ends - your head is resting on his shoulder - you open your mouth to say something - he stabs you - once - twice - you fall - he lets you - you watch him leave - through the rain/tears/blood loss - the last thing you see - is his wink - it is a sad, inevitable wink - you wake up in the med-bay - you do not hear from him again
Or at least not for a whole game. You occasionally hear stories about the Charlatan though, just to poke the sore spot(s). Maybe see a winky face graffitied now and then.
Btw if you HAD taken the interrupt he'd be dead.

I fully expect siding with him to bite me in the ass someday, just less so than siding with Slone would have. trust is important for me when it comes to romance, I suppose that is why I liked Peebee's so much I have a friend who no longer trusts BioWare and is adamant that she does not want Cullen to return in DA4 because right now he's safy married to the Inquisitor living in rural bliss somewhere in Thedas. If he comes back then she's convinced Patrick Weekes will do something nefarious to him. Alistair left her elf mage heartbroken and Solas, well....you didn't romance Solas did you? I love the potential for conflict in Reyes' story. I don't think he's ambitious or untrustworthy though, I think he wants what is best for Kadara and taking out Sloane was the best method of achieving it. Yes, he's ruthless and determined and he definitely started off with an ulterior motive but to watch him fall for Ryder was really special. I don't believe he'd do anything to jeopardise that relationship. Ryder brings out a side to him that he likes and wants to hold onto. I love this man ♥

I enjoyed his romance a great deal, but I was fortunate enough to play it long after DAI had come out and therefore knew exactly what I was going into. I feel if they'd pick up the romance in DA4 and give him and Lavellan some kind of romantic closure, it could turn into the best and most rewarding romance I've ever played in a game!

Reyes cause he legit appears to be the only morally grey LI, plus his romance arc doesn't come off as trashy teen fan fiction like Jaal's Mills & Boon romance.

Haha I love how Jaal and Reyes are going back and forth, but nothing will ever top the perfection of Jaal's romance novel romance for me. Reyes I like though, despite he broke my trust. I feel bad for the guy. He's a pretty sad individual. I hope they add more to his story at some point.

In retrospect the sort of dark/morbid satisfaction that came from that playthrough was probably what sparked my infatuation with these kind of love stories in the first place. Unfortunately Obsidian Entertainment stopped including romances, even of the Bishop or Atton Rand sort. I can see why, and some of the friendship interactions in their later games are just as delightfully twisted, but I do miss that romance dynamic. I'm not always in the mood for that sort of game, but when I am, "morbid satisfaction" is the exact phrase I'd use to describe it.

Atton was my first INTENTIONAL video game romance.
...Juhani was my first video game romance. In both cases, I was left confused and bewildered, but amused.
I'm really bad at picking up on flirts when they're not coded for my convenience, okay?
I don't have a dog in this race (haven't done any romances yet), but I suspect my favorite will probably be Liam's or Vetra's because I prefer the best-friendos romance arcs when I choose to be a flirterer. Eventually, I'll probably get along to playing Ryders who work with every character... I am, however, insanely delighted that Reyes is winning. GO, YOU UNSTABLE PILE OF HORMONES AND LIES! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
