I wouldn't mind casey coming back but who I would really really want back is Drew Karpyshyn. "Yup. Drew was the Lead Writer, but then I killed him (haha)"
- Mac Walters 2009 ------------------------ "I'm not working on Andromeda. don't think they need me." - Drew Karpyshyn 2017 Actual quotes. Cherrypicked for impact.

I wouldn't mind casey coming back but who I would really really want back is Drew Karpyshyn. That's never going to happen since Drew isn't moving back to Canada. Not to mention, Drew is all in on Star Wars, which is his real passion anyway. I can't wait for BioWare Austin to reveal their unannounced project that Drew is working on. Rumor has it that it will be the spiritual successor to KOTOR 1.

I just want Casey to stop working on HoloLens. It's not going to be a hit, you're wasting your time. Go develop more games you visionary man!
BTW, Evil Chris made a slip up in 2013 and said that Casey was the one who said "It's not good enough. We have to do better." which made them begin making Extended Cut. I know they fucked it up by going the "clarification route" but at least he isn't like Mac who immediately resorts to excuses or discarding the criticism. Mac's first response to the endings were "It's just a vocal minority" and that was after Extended Cut and then he went on to go the whole "We're looking ahead" route which is Andromeda. He's the idiot who says "I love Mass Effect because you can tell any story in it from my favorite TV show to my fav book" to the one saying "I'm not gonna let Andromeda not be Mass Effect" as if he knows how to define something he's previously been incapable of.
Whoever has the setting, tone and spirit of Mass Effect in the pawn of their hand it's not Mac. It's far more likely that even Patrick Weekes, Drew or Chris L'Etoile could start scribbling on a page and turn it into a true-to-form Mass Effect story. Considering Mac's contributions from the Shyamalanian children to militaristic banter of 3, to the dumbed down writing for Anderson and Udina and TIM to his Roland Emmerich-esque comics about Turian monks and people yelling "WHY. DON'T. YOU. DIE!?" to fucking this:
That right here, is the rawest form of Mac Walters penmanship you will ever find in spoken language that isn't the Catalyst dialogue, Priority Earth or the intro to ME3 and you can just tell how bad it is even just by looking at the awkwardly paced prose.

It was like any other night...It was almost midnight and the end of one terrible day and the beginning of yet another. It'd been like this as far back as he could remember...
How long had it been now? Three years? Five? It all seemed to just blur into one long stream of booze, multi-colored cupcakes, and internet comments bemoaning what should have been his greatest moment.
Instead it had been his undoing. So many years of sweat, blood, and tears poured into crafting the ultimate fantasy roleplaying experience...all the script drafts, PR bullshit Q&As, the 3am crisis meeting the day before going gold trying to decide what face to use for Tali before Eric the intern found that damned stock photo...all of that in hopes that one day his genius would be recognized...so that one day he would hear those sweet precious five little words...
"It's better than The Witcher"
But no...in a single decision it all came crumbling down.
Why did he do it? Was it hubris? Had he been watching too much Battle Star Galactica or playing too much Deus Ex?
He would try to piece it all together but the speculation became too much.
He would try to call Super Mac, but he wouldn't ever return his calls.
He'd become a piraha... a persona non grata.
He shambled his way through the dark hallway of his flat towards his computer.
He was going to do it again. Like returning to the scene of the crime he clicked his top bookmark "Unofficial BSN"
Why did he keep doing this to himself, he never understood. He knew the heavy risk and knew there would be no priiize.
It would be the same night...like every night befo...
Wait, something was different.
He rubbed his sore eyes, they must have been betraying them. He focused as hard as he could and waited for the room to stop spinning. This...this had to be some joke or troll thread.
"A Plea to Casey Hudson"
His heart began beating faster, dare he click? Dare he hope perchance to dream once more? He nervously hovered his finger over the mouse unable to move forward...Finally the weight of holding his finger became too much and he fell upon his mouse with great strength.
In an instant the thread came to life...and so did he...
"Come back" they said...they praised his genius...they saw that he WAS Mass Effect...Without him it was comparatively a Cleveland Steamer...or as they say in Canada a Toronto Boiler.
But...oh no! The desperation...they cried out in horror for his return and had convinced themselves this was their last shot. Oh if they only knew how long he had waited for his children to call to him, to summon him once more to glory. He knew what he had to do...
He stood up and walked to the kitchen sink with determination, the kind he hadn't felt in oh so long...he unscrewed the cap to bottle of Jack he had been nursing all day and began to pour into the sink. He wouldn't let it control him, or destroy him...he refused.
In that moment he looked up to see his own reflection in the kitchen window...where once there was a hollow broken shell of a man, there now stood game developer.
He inhaled deeply and nodded as he slowly let out the first new breath only a man reborn could feel.
"Don't worry," he whispered softly "I'm coming goishen"

Never said it was going to happen, I said that's who I would want back. I understood. He's my favorite writer at BioWare, but he can only do so much. Mass Effect doesn't appear to be on his radar anymore. I just want Casey to stop working on HoloLens. It's not going to be a hit, you're wasting your time. Go develop more games you visionary man! It's easy money, a cushy position, and he doesn't have to worry about a crazy fan base sending him death threats for not getting their "perfect ending." It's also just a nice change of pace from the nightmare that is AAA game development.

I guess the lesson from this thread is you can go from being a hero to a villain...and then the people will beg you to return.
And as long as you are talking about pointless wish fulfilment give us Weekes back

And as long as you are talking about pointless wish fulfilment give us Weekes back Right, and all of his faith bullshit. Right. Right next to his magic bullshit. Sure. That's just why he described his assignment to writing Mordin as a "problettunity". EDIT : Look, I know what Weekes' problem is. He's trying to rewrite Death Wing Chronicles only where Alfred wins. Except you can't. I mean, heh. Good god, man give it up. Nietzche said it 150 (ish) years ago. God is dead. Give it up man. EDIT x 2 : And by this, he's pandering to the lowest class of American society. The class that still goes to church and still believes that his pansexual lifestyle is an abomination. I dunno what his end goal here is, I suppose to make the right wing like him? I dunno. The right wing to accept him?

I wouldn't really have a problem with this, while I didn't like the ME3 endings I didn't hate them either. Just found them underwhelming, although as others have mentioned it would be better if they brought Drew back.

Well, I just realized something funny about Casey Hudson and this whole situation. He's basically become Revan in an nutshell Savior, Conqueror, Hero, Villain, he was all things to everyone. And now, people here want to see him having gone from being the Sith Lord himself (aka everyone blaming him for ME3's ending) to the savior of our galaxy (returning for MEA2). Quote is from KOTOR for those who don't catch the reference

I dunno. But I would like to be the FBI's bug on Aaryn Flynn's line when Casey Hudson calls and bitches him out. If it hasn't already happened,
EDIT : I mean, most likely, there have been no phone calls between the two individuals. But I like to think that there have been.

I think if Drew came back he would do something and the mob would turn on him quickly. Mass Effect 1 was good because people accepted its faults and enjoyed what it was. It also has the smallest story of the four games which left them the ability to lock the small amount of content down tight. I am pretty sure there would be untold memes about reusing the same line of dialogue no matter what line of dialogue you would pick your character to say. When The Old Republic Drew took a lot of fire too for the writing in that game and people were blaming him for it.
I think the best way for BioWare to "improve the story" which can be subjective is to collapse the story to a much smaller game that can be beaten in less then five hours like you could with Mass Effect 1 and that would allow them to make sure it is "done right".

Look. I don't really think he fucked up the endings, to be honest. You mileage will vary. There's no may about it. He created an ending which kept people talking for FIVE YEARS. That is a sign of good writing. Not bad writing. Bad writing is like, hmmm? Wonder what Commando is doing now? WTF cares? Srsly? Why do they keep on making Alien movies? 'Cause the writing is THAT god damned good. To be fair, people talk about a lot of terrible things years after they happen, even in literature/writing. Twilight, 50 Shades of Gray, etc. That's doesn't mean those are examples of good writing just because they were so bad that people still are talking about them years later. Your Alien movie example is a little stretched as well. They keep making Fast and Furious movies, and those are assuredly not examples of good writing. Just good money producers. Now, I don't agree that then endings were bad anyway. I only played after the EC was added, but I rather liked all the choices. I didn't see what all the hate was about, and wouldn't really have cared if they had chosen a canon ending to continue the story with ME4, or even an alternative ending (like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided). At any rate, I don't see a problem with Andromeda. I loved Casey's vision for KOTOR and the OT, and I enjoy Andromeda. I understand what they are trying to do with this game by giving less world-shaping decisions. Those decisions that could alter the state of the in-game universe (killing/saving Rachni queen, who survives the suicide mission, etc) made it so that to make the third game cohesive they had to either put random stand-in characters in or would have needed another several years and millions of dollars to create what would probably amount to being about 3-4 different games worth of story. So here they are taking a much more toned down approach. They also have less of a threat in the Kett. I mean, what's going to beat the Reapers in terms of scope of threat? And the point was to have a smaller scope of threat so the PC could feel more "allowed" to explore the new "open" world and not feel so pressured by their mission of saving the galaxy. So there is less of an epic battle against a larger-than-life foe, and more of the story of the beginnings of a hero. There is also the scope of the world in MEA, which means the story must be watered down a bit. I don't disagree that it would be nice for the story to be tighter, like in the OT, and be of more consequence, but I think the story they have written for MEA is a very good one and kept me wanting to figure more and more out about the Kett, the Remnant, and the Benefactor. All in all, if Casey decided to come back I would be pretty happy. But he probably will not, and that fact doesn't upset me. I think they have a solid foundation for some epic stories to explore.

Okay, I'm gonna draw in another game here, and I don't want to associate it with ME:A because it just doesn't affect other cultures, but what about Life Is Strange? Life Is Strange is all about character development, but also in the scope of a larger world (albeit on rails). Here, all you have is disjointed characters doing their own things hoping that the character will come along. Well, WTF should I give two shits less about what you're doing? Unless you give me a reason to care, I honestly do not give a shit about what you are doing. EDIT : And no, I disagree with Fast And Furious, thing. I agree, the movies are complete bollocks. But the kernel is there, and that kernel is that family can never be destroyed.

I know of Life is Strange. Haven't played it yet, but watched some Let's Plays so I get what it's about and how it's played. I have wanted to play it for a while now because it looks really really good in terms of story and effects of choices. I will admit, however, that your point has gone over my head a bit. Do you mean that there is a fairly large world in LIS and that your decisions affect a lot outside of the main story, but you still care about those things? Sorry if I'm not quite understanding what you are saying about LIS. I tend not to catch on to some things, so I apologize.

Sorry if I'm not quite understanding what you are saying about LIS. I tend not to catch on to some things, so I apologize. No, what I'm saying is that LiS is a character driven story. ME:A, for all its faults, it's an unknown story. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Sometimes it follows SAM, sometimes it follows Ryder, (although, more often SAM), sometimes you can't tell who in the hell it's following. EDIT : Add to this the 12 yo (written by, not for) fan fiction. It's just dense. I don't mean that in a complimentary sense.

Jesus Christ, now you've done it. You completely set Linkesnki off on his weird Mac Walters jag. It's like a modern-day Rupert Pupkin.

Well, let's see what Casey has to say for himself. I see. Anything else you would like to add, Casey? Right.
