So Ryder is dropping down a 'gravity elevator' into a vault, like he has at least 6 times before. "Gee I wonder whats down hear."
Across many planets, he arrives at a settlement or town he has been to many times. "the map says its 'town' lets check it out" or something similar.
Without SAM I don't think Ryder would know who anyone is or where he is, what he is suppose to be doing, how he is suppose to use his scanner. Hell I think Ryder is just a 'meat sack' controlled by a computer.
A REAL genius.

The dialogue wheel is used for different purposes at different times. Sometimes it really is just dialogue (character expression), other times it becomes the input mechanism for character choices that have consequences. Both of the examples you cite influence a single character and/or Shepard's relationship with that character. I would also point out that both cases take place over multiple games - Shepard met (or could meet) al-Jilani in all three games, and Kelly in two of them. As it is, Ryder can influence and build relationships with various characters, and perhaps that influence will grow if s/he continues over multiple games. I admit the first one takes place over 3 games. However the 2nd one is in the same game, ME3. With your reply you bring up a very important point, there are so MANY dialog options in MEA, the vast majority are just 'fluff' and affect nothing, there are a FEW that do affect the game. How am I supposed to know which is which? May be it is a bit more realistic but it would be nice if more choices I made meant something, there is just too much 'fluff' in this game for MY taste. Well - the big impact you get with Kelly is whether she continues to hang out in the refugee docking area for the rest of the game. Ryder also has plenty of opportunities to impact NPCs. I've seen quite a few requests for more dialogue opportunities to express the character's opinions and ideals, but you seem to want fewer such opportunities. Different strokes, I guess.

I suppose the game could have us hunt around for stuff the old fashioned way. The rest seems like that repetitive canned dialogue that triggers, possibly even from bugs. I experience a few where Ryder or a squad member will make a comment in an area even though it was already visited. Example: the kett camping in the cave north of Podromos. Every single time you visit they'll talk about the escape pod even though you cleared it out and scanned it.

And got through habitat 7 and the end of the game with out Sam's help. Also, you for get how much edi helps you like that in ME@ and 3?

Nah Ryder is dumber when I choose a response Ryder says something completely different from the option I choose Shepard does this all the time. Or the other way around in ME1: they give you 3 options but Shepard says the exact same thing whatever you choose.
