One of the most important things for me in any Bioware game is my character. If I'm not happy with my character then the game is lost to me. The character creator should be one of highest priority when building a game like Andromeda.

I think that the character creator needs quite a lot of work. Regardless of what each preset actually looks like, being able to shuffle through options for each like eyes/eyebrows, mouths, noses, complexions and so forth would easily counter any issues people might have with a face which has a structure they like but details they don't. It's really curious that these things aren't present. Like, simply making a freckle-faced redhead seems like an impossibility. The hair is nothing special, but at least a significant improvement over Inquisition's, which is more feint praise.
I'm thoroughly satisfied with the character I ended up with, but that's only because I was lucky enough to find settings that suited me most within its serious limitations. If I tried to make an alternate, it would take a hell of a lot of tweaking.

they should just remove the character creator and just leave two options, default male Ryder and default female Ryder, simple

I really like how my male ryder came out but I'll be damned if I can make a good female one that doesn't look like the same two or three good female ones I have seen out there already. Reminds me of how so many femsheps looked exactly the same despite it not being the default. I think it was a modification to the default. She looked good though. But here, Sara's face hurts.

As the Sara and Scott I created, the faces that I now associate with those characters, don't even remotely resemble the defaults. I'd rather keep the character creator we have now than have to use the defaults.

Well for one, I would be happy with better looking facial hair for Ryder.
Though I am now personally attached to default Scott Ryder after my first playthrough..

I lost count of the restarts I made trying to find a fem-Ryder that didn't end up looking like a gormless twit. I did end up with a fem-Ryder that I didn't hate. I still wasn't happy with her, but at least I didn't hate the way she looked. My first attempts were directed at making a fem shep, but to no avail. I say a fem-shep even though I would look on her to be a fem-Ryder. It's just that fem-shep looked every part the space heroine, if you get my meaning.

The character creator is lacking so much that it seems like they did it purposefully.
I was able to make a good male Ryder that I liked, but the defaults I can't stand.

From what I've been able to tell, the gameshark strategy for this character creator is to go for a middle-of-the-road skin tone, most of the very pale and very mandingo Ryders I tried to make didn't look very good until I adjusted the skin tone accordingly. I guess I could mess around with it some more in the future but I'm not exactly optimistic.

Yeah, I made a pretty good looking male Ryder. Unfortunately that's not the way I wanted to play it. Bioware really has something against women looking like women. Maybe they perceive women as being aliens or ugly men.

Character creators are relatively low on my list of priorities for games. As long as I can make a decent character, I'm ok. However, the facial animations in this game, while not all that bad most of the time (there are a few pretty bad spots, but overall not bad) can be blown fairly well out of proportion if you make the mouth a bit too wide, or too close to the nose, or what have you. So I've spent waaaaaaay more time in the CC in this game than I usually do.
And I can tell you that I've come up with a couple of pretty decent Ryders, both male and female...but they were annoyingly tricky to get "just right."
So, while CC is pretty low on my list of priorities, I'm fully in agreement that this one could use a lot of work. DA:I level isn't necessary for me, but more options in this one would go a long way.

Ugh the CC is terrible. Why, exactly, can't we just have options like skin type, eyebrow type, mouth type, so that we can actually make the character we want? I want Head 4's general facial structure (or at least, what I can modify it to) and lips, with Head 9's skin tone and eyebrows. Why is this not possible?
ME2 you could do all of that. ME3 at least you could do SOME of that. MEA just went 3 steps back.
Don't even get me started on the plastic...nay, clay-like, hair. It's literally the same textures and style as ME1, and that was HOW long ago? Can we say "transparency map" Bioware?
And to add insult to injury, you can't actually see how your character looks in game until you sit through the 10 minute UNSKIPPABLE prologue. And once you do THAT, if you don't like your character, you can't save that preset and go back and just edit the bits that look weird (unless you are online and connected to be able to upload/import it). You have to start from scratch. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The CC was my main problem during early access. It needs a lot of work to be comparable to DAI. Spoiler tagged for length: DAI Options (63 fields) 1. Face Shape 2. Skin Tone 3. Complexion 4. Eye Color 5. Hair 6. Hair Color 7. Beard 8. Ear Size 9. Ear Position 10. Earlobe Size 11. Cheekbones 12. Cheek Shape 13. Brow Size 14. Forehead 15. Eye Shape 16. Eye Size 17. Eye Position 18. Eye Rotation and Spacing 19. Eyebrow Style 20. Eyebrow Position 21. Eyelash Style 22. Outer Iris Color 23. Inner Iris Color 24. Nose Shape 25. Nose Size 26. Nose Position 27. Nose Bridge Size 28. Bridge Position 29. Nose Tip Size 30. Nose Tip Position 31. Nostril Size 32. Broken Nose 33. Mouth Shape 34. Mouth Width 35. Mouth Position 36. Lip Thickness 37. Jawline 38. Jaw Size 39. Jowls 40. Chin Size 41. Chin Shape 42. Double Chin 43. Adam’s Apple 44. Scars 45. Scar Intensity 46. Scar Horizontal Position 47. Scar Vertical Position 48. Tattoo Design 49. Tattoo Color 50. Eye Shadow Color 51. Eye Shadow Intensity 52. Under-Eye Color 53. Under-Brow Color 54. Under-Brow Intensity 55. Eyelash Color 56. Eyeliner Color 57. Eyeliner Intensity 58. Blush Color 59. Blush Intensity 60. Lip Color 61. Lip Color Intensity 62. Lip Liner Color 63. Lip Shine
MEA Options (43 fields) 1. Skin Tone 2. Brow Height 3. Brow Depth 4. Cheek Height 5. Cheek Width 6. Cheekbone Width 7. Chin Height 8. Chin Depth 9. Chin Width 10. Jaw Width 11. Eye Height 12. Eye Depth 13. Eye Width 14. Lip Thickness 15. Mouth Height 16. Mouth Depth 17. Mouth Width 18. Nose Height 19. Nose Depth 20. Nose Width 21. Nose Size 22. Hair Style 23. Hair Color 24. Facial Hair Style 25. Outer Color 26. Inner Color 27. Eyeliner Style 28. Eyeliner Opacity 29. Eyeliner Color 30. Eye Shadow Style 31. Eye Shadow Opacity 32. Eye Shadow Color 33. Lipstick Style 34. Lipstick Opacity 35. Lipstick Gloss 36. Lipstick Color 37. Blush Style 38. Blush Opacity 39. Blush Color 40. Scar Style 41. Scar Intensity 42. Tattoo Style 43. Tattoo Color
A few notes: - Some options in are consolidated in DAI's CC, such as Mouth Height/Depth in MEA is just Mouth Position in DAI.
- I'm not entirely sure why DAI has eye color in one category, and then outer/inner iris later in the creator.
- One of MEA's main strengths over DAI is hair. DAI doesn't have the same hair color variety and has over a dozen versions of bald or near-bald.
- It is much easier to make a believable non-white character in DAI.
- DAI's sculpting and scars blow MEA's out of the water.
- Dragon Age CCs have usually been more powerful, but they don't spend resources on marketing defaults in the same way.

If this is indeed what feminist believe, then they have a really low opinion of themselves. They need to look further than their own mirror and see a world brimming with powerful beautiful women. Yes, it's reality knocks.

They can do a lot of improvements for sure, and they said they'll do, so in my next playthrough I'll go with a very different Sara than the one I have now, or perhaps I'll play Scott and customize his appearance with new options that will be after various patches.

My goal was to create visual diarrhea so in that regard it is superb. Not as good as the dark souls character creator though

I thought we were gonna get an upgrade in the CC with more adjustments like the options to adjust nose, eyes, mouth etc but instead they just gave us two short hair styles, what the hell was that about? The CC is terrible as it is now. Even DAI CC was better imo and that sucked big time with all those balled hair cuts filling it up to the edge.

Well it's utter baws innit. Every white male Ryder I've seen look closer related than default Sera and Scott. Only 1 preset and you can barely change it. Not sure what you mean, did your mission to make a semi-decent Ryder fail or do you genuinely think that thing looks good?
