no please, no This is the 26th-28th century, at least. And even in the 22nd century, everything is long-range. Please. No ninja swords. No brawling. Just no. Don't. I'd contest that. (For the record, I'm not massively fussed about getting a load of super CQC moves... But I do want to biotically punch someone through a wall. And then Charge myself through the wall. And then punch them through the next wall over.)

I thought that Kai Leng and his little mercenaries (forgot the name of that particular Cerberus unit) were a bit ridiculous. Come on.. it's Sci-fi.. no swords a la japanese style or however you want to call it. An omniblade, the butt of a rifle or your fists are in my opinion the best options. I think Kai Leng's character should be revamped and inspired by Mr. Solomon.

I think they could research various H2H combat disciplines that are used in the military to make H2H more realisic and simple. Like Krav Maga, Silat, and Kali empty handed.

(snipped video) It would be sweet if BioWare revamp their hand to hand combat system to be fluid, simple, and straight to the point. You could at least use a Frostbite based game to make your point:

This seems like a prime example of "more gameplay options are better." If hand-to-hand breaks someone's immersion, they can just... not use it. If someone enjoys that playstyle, they can do it. Having the option takes nothing away from anyone. Personally, I would like the option. Preferably non-flashy, straightforward, efficient moves. No crazy flips and stuff (though teleport dodges feel so good, even if they make no sense ). That would be way more immersive than just lightly pistol whipping enemies over and over. Last time I checked real soldiers could do more than that. If this were about immersion, the option for a slightly more robust melee system should be there, long range weapons or no. Having a soldier with little to no melee capability is absolutely not realistic or immersive. I would also like the option to be stealthy in approaching combat, but I don't consider it a mechanically realistic possibility in a squad-based TPS. So I'll just settle for being able to get in their with my hands if I want to.

My big problem with melee is not its appropriateness - it is always a part of the skillset no matter what kind of guns there are (in other words, bayonets ruled over ranged back in its days too) - it's using the keyboard for it rather than the RMB/LMB, making your character less mobile just when it needs it most. Oh, yes, I am sure a lot of folks have the ASWD mastery while using other KB buttons, but I do love the movement being separate from the fast/continuous combat actions.

realism =/= gameplay
no matter how capable in melee-fighting an elite-soldier in real life is, squeezing "immersive" melee actions in a game just for the sake adding releasim doesn't make much sense to me. ME3 had it done just right IMO, nothing special & completely optional because the focus was on weapons & biotic abilities. if you ask me, it could stay that way.
call me lame, i just can't imagine it using your bare fists against a krogan-warlord or trying to high kick a flying drone or stuff like that.
i'd rather let them keep their focus on working on biotic attacks & developing them further instead of figuring out how to properly implement melee-fighting just for the sake of realism. after all, it's still a sci-fi-game so a game where realism never's a high prioity.

Hand-to-Hand combat? What about Headbutt-to-Headbutt combat like how the Krogans do? Day 1 of ME3. I was a Krogan - pure headbutting everything with ease. If that did not happen, it was shotgun to the face. I had evolved with the times later, but those memories were awesome.

The N7 Slayer was one of my favorite classes to play in ME3MP, even up to Gold. I even stayed away from the biotic slash through the walls cheese for the most part (unless Banshee's ). The point of the vanguard was to get in close and cause as much damage as possible. Either biotically or with guns. As much as I love shotgun headshots I'd at least like to have my options open for melee. I'd also like to add the option to play a futuristic spy/Jason Bourne CQC badass with the infiltrator too. Now I might have a hard time reconciling that kind of character with the ME:A story but, you know, options

Ghost Recon Wildlands delivered on that department and I loved that they provide options and create your own tactics, and if I were BioWare I learn a thing or two from them to improve their squad based mechanics.

Except it does take away game development time from everyone.
From the developers, from the gamers who will never use it. The only group that I consider it beneficial to are the hardcore gamers who can't find enough challenge in a game, and who can't decide what type of game they want this to be. Do you want it to be a stealth game? Do you want it to be a third person shooter? You can't really say both and have it coming out looking like a BioWare game. You'd have it coming out looking somewhat akin to CoD.
And there's already a CoD.

It's nothing wrong with change and that's the problem with BioWare they stay the same, and if they don't bring anything new to the game it will be another typical boring more story less gameplay type of game.

While I doubt it'd work in every situation I wouldn't mind some form of dedicated melee which is one of the reason I liked the Heavy Melee inclusion in ME3
Main problem is because of the different shapes and sizes of aliens it wouldn't always seem plausible, let alone if they have multiple vital organs similar to Krogan
Hell I'd take anything over those fairy punches and kicks thrown by Vega,Shepard, & Thane. Also, for you are battle are fought at range people, there's a reason why most soldiers still carry knives and are all trained in close quarters combat techniques

We know melee combat will be part of Andromeda, the very first trailer in E3'15 showed that. The question is how integrated it will be to the game. Something like Splinter Cell Blacklist would be amazing, but it doesn't quite fit Mass Effect gameplay.

I wouldn't mind that, anything is better than being sync killed like you were in ME3 if you so much as got into sneezing distance of a Banshee or Phantom
