MEA was meant to make you feel like an alien, but what made it hard for me was despite meeting new aliens, I was surrounded by MW ones that I had gotten used to and felt like our numbers outmatched the Angara (and some already knew of humans and MW aliens because of Kadara). If it was just humans traveling to Andromeda it might have felt different for me. Habitat 7 gave me that feeling of being in a strange place, but once I got to the Nexus and saw all the MW aliens, I didn't feel alone in a strange new world. This is an area where it does fall flat on its face, though in my opinion largely through interaction with the natives. With Andromeda we got 3 new species: Remnant, Kett, and Angara. The Remnant and Kett exist basically entirely to be nameless baddies and so they're not really that relevant to us feeling alien any more than the Collectors were. The Angara had great promise for a sort of "Darmok" moment from The Next Generation where Picard has to deal with a species which the universal translator cannot figure out because their speech is so unique in its style. Instead however, our universal translators figure out the language evidently in like 30 seconds and then we go through the old "We don't trust you" and then about 5 missions later "We were wrong to not trust you. You are our friends now!". I'm not even sure how that whole scene worked if the Angara and MW species already knew about each other from Kadara. Plus as you note, the game spends a hell of a lot of time surrounding us with Milky Way aliens that we already knew from the original trilogy. Yeah because of the exiles, the Angara know of humans already. Ryder is the first human on Aya, but the Angara know of them and already even have Reyes as an ally. Just a quick scan of Ryder confirms they are human and since they have their language from previous interactions, they just turned on their translators. I really wanted a real first contact. Sometimes I think the exiles was not a good idea. It takes away from it since our rep is already in ruins instead of attempting to learn from a new race and find a way to communicate (Ryder saying they come in peace and getting a nav point sent also isn't explained if they needed to scan them to translate).

1. It makes sense that their base are build the same way, the romans use to build their camps with the exact same architecture when they made them witch specific precision. Because its the same faction so if course it will be similar. I don't see why the ketts would modify their architecture for one building or another. Civilisation don't modify their achitecture for whatever reasons, especially when the places they build have the same function aka maintaining a millitary presents. And What the fuck does it have to do with unbalanced gameplay or combat. 2. Your explanation are kind of generic, you just say "oh you are powerfull". When you remember that you have only have access to only 3 powers at a time, it does not matter if you unlocked everything no matter your level because you can only use 3 at a time. So I am waiting for the part were you bring arguments, your only able to say "you are powerful as the sith emperor because you have acces to tons of power", this is not an arguments its just a statements that rely on absolutely nothing. Its not based on actual gameplay, write something about it instead of generic sayings. And no the multiplayer is not more fun than the single player, maybe you think that way I don't, again no arguments there that is just saying "this is bad", with NOTHING to back it up. 3. Superman don't prove your point, he is harder to write yes. So what? What you basically say is "superman proves my point", ok ill say "the sky is blue, this proves my point", it makes just as much sense because you doN,t support your statements. the power of superman are not a gameplay mechanics its part of his character IN THE STORY, while for Ryder its only a gameplay mechanics, he is not powerful in cut scenes. You are comparing apple to oranges 1 - I'm talking gameplay, not story or lore 3 - here let me break it down a shade further. .. Ah who am I kidding, I'm repeating myself now. When you give too much control and powers to your game players, it makes it harder to balance a video game. How is this not processing? 2 - Andromeda has more power then past Mass Effect games that you can also free to pick and choose. And now you also have the jetpack jumps too. Even BioWare themselves in their multiplayer stream said the game is much harder to balance now because of the verticality the jetpack introduced. 1. yes and how is the ketts forts architecture feeling similar is unbalancing gameplay? that is one of the thing you spoke about in your previous posts. Because those things were unrelated but you did spoke about them. you are free to give up on this aspects, its just something I responded to something you wrote. 2. Yes its harder to balance if you have lots of power possibilities, I get that! The problem is that that your explanation stops there and you don,t answer the question. Its like if I was criticizing a movie, and then someone ask me to explain why I think its bad. And my answer is "its hard to make a good film". I would not be explaining why I think the movie is bad, I would just be saying that its hard to do it. And that is exactly what you are doing, when I tell you to explain to me how having lots of power at your disposal unbalance the game, the only thing you respond is "its hard to balance when there is this many power...". Tell me HOW the numerous powers in MEA unbalance the gameplay in this particular game. Something can be hard but it can be achieve with sucess, just telling me that its hard does not tell me if the studio suceeded or not. Just because its harder means it cannot be done with sucess? that nobody should try to do it? 3. yes the jet pack offer more verticality and mobility, which is a good thing it makes the combat were more active and adds an other dimension. Its harder to balance with this in game I get that, you still don't bring how Bioware fails in that regards. You just say it makes things harder to balance but not how its unbalanced.

Here are a few things I think would have improved the gameplay on the different planets.
1. Enemy "zones". Instead of having Kett bases randomly dropped around, have them concentrated in one quarter of the map, as you might expect an army to do...then entering the "Kett controlled zone" would seem more like infiltrating enemy teritory. On Kadara, you could have valleys which were Outlaw, valleys that were Kett, valleys that were Roekar, etc. of course, the Remnant could still be guarding monolith sites all over, but they would be the exception.
2. Variety of (random encounter)enemies. You have, what, 3 types of Kett, basically? 3 types of Remnant, 3 types of outlaw(which is the same as Roekar). And, most immersion-breaking, the same 4 kinds of violent wildlife on every planet. They really could have used a few more. Even some non-violent unique wildlife would help.
3. Gravity. Instead of having the same gravity, tweak it a little so jumps are higher, running is faster on one, slower/ lower on another. Wouldnt change much, but the "feel" would be different.
4. Night/day. Fighting at night could be awesome. Especially if nightvision was a part.
5. I have said this before and got taken to task for it, but I think replays would be more fun if you were limited to two skill sets. You could be biotic/tech, biotic/combat, or combat/tech. I know this kind of goes against profiles, but it would give me more reason to replay the game, to try out the different combos. Right now, I can play all things in one playthrough. Certainly two, with NG+.
6. More Caves. They already have a few caves, they could have added more and made the cave systems longer to add another different "combat map".
Thats all off the top of my head...other thoughts?

I imagine a Jaal recruitment mission where Ryder and him get stranded alone on a planet with a bunch of Kett and have to work together to get out of the situation. On top of that Angara and Humans have never actually met, so the entire time you can't understand anything that Jaal says to you and he acts like he can't understand anything you say so you have to try alternative means of communicating. It would give a nice introduction to the species with proper first contact as well as provide an actual reason for Jaal to join your team rather than what felt like a somewhat flimsy excuse that amounted to "You don't need me here and I have a good feeling about these people". Especially with the whole wearing their emotions on their sleeve thing they have going on. He might come across as somebody who seems a bit overbearing at first if they just throw him at you without warning like that.

Well, anyone who says that this is the worst game ever made is kinda full of shit. Anyway, to answer the question: no. I haven't seen anyone here say it's the worst game ever. The criticisms I've made and have seen many others make, are actually quite specific. I have, however seen people say it's the best RPG they've ever played; which makes me think they haven't played very many because it simply isn't. I've seen people say it's the best RPG Bioware has ever made which tells me they know f**kall about the other games Bioware has done. There is a lot of criticism about this game because it is a follow up to a beloved series and there were a lot of high expectations due to the many great games Bioware has released before. Honest criticism can help a developer improve. A never ending stream of sunshine being blown up Bioware's collective butt about how this is the most awesome RPG ever and anyone who doesn't like it is stupid, a hater, a lying sack of cr*p, ect. doesn't help at all. To answer the original question, no. Boom! Goes the Father of All Bombs. Well said.

COD has a game come out every year or two usually which is one of the reasons I thought it gets so much hate. Bioware spent five years on this game.

I think when I first heard of the Angara, my exact thoughts were I hope we have a communication thing with them that isn't solved by the magic translator. Earning his trust through learning to understand each other would have also made for an interesting mission. I get a few rare moments, like showing him I learned how to greet like the Angara, or he teaches the Tempest crew Angaran words, but it's still overly "human" I guess is the word. I also noticed some Angara speak their own language on Aya, so how does the translator not change it?

Planetary design? Planet design was probably one of ME1's greatest design weaknesses. Most planets were virtually identical to one another. Anyone thinking that it's somehow superior to what we got now is hitting the red sand hard. I don't agree, but not arguing because you know your lore.

Well when you look at ennemy types of the standard mode, there is 6 types of ketts. 8 types of outlaws, human, turian, salarian, asari, krogan, angara, hydra, sniper rifle. and there is 5 types of remnant ennemies (if you excludes the architects). Which makes 19 but we could also have more. I agree for most of the points except the fifth one

6 type of Kett? I only run into Chosen, Annointed, and Destined. I dont count the dogs, which are the same as the wildlife ones. Outlaws and Roekarr I only remember outlaw, sharpshooter, and pariah.

Kett dogs can turn invisible, they are bit different than the adhi who can instead interrupt you, but I don't want to spoil you something for the story, did you finished the game? here will be some little spoilers Because yes there is more than 3 types of ketts, if you include the secret one : anointed, ascendant, behemoth, chosen, destined, fiend, wraith (the attack dog) for Outlaws, there are the humans, the turians, the sniper rifle, the berserker (krogan), the asari, the salarian and hydra, there is also the adhi which are their attack dogs. In multiplayer they also have an angara among them, I don't remember if we saw them with outlaws in the single player, but they sure are in the multiplayer on the other hand.

I'm pretty sure the wraiths are engineered versions of the regular feral creatures, similarly to the fiends that accompany kett.

For me (and I am coming into this discussion late, but I skimmed most posts), the power of ME1 had fuck all to do with the look of it and everything to do with the novelty of it. It was the tone set by the music. It was the politics of the citadel. It was learning about the different species and engaging with them and making some of them part of your crew. I don't need the whole trilogy to compare to MEA.
ALL FROM ME1 The Quarians - space nomads who went on pilgrimages for the good of their "tribe". Space...fucking...nomads...flying around in a giant fleet, looking for a home? Space nomads with mad skills in tech, who lost their homeworld to their own creations? Fucking Kela-se'lih? What a beautiful idea. What a tragic and beautiful idea.
The Krogan - badass mercs whose culture is dying all around them. Once, they were the badasses of of the galaxy. Now, neutered by science and politics, they are relics. Heartbreaking, powerful stuff.
The Asari - wise, beautiful, long-lived space babes. Weird breeding. (sorry...not a huge asari fan, so I can't gush).
THE VOLUS!!!!! - they have to wear those suits because of the atmospheric composition and pressure of their homeworld. They looked amazing and unique in ME1. They were great comic relief. AND WE NEED A VOLUS SQUAD MEMBER!!! (ok..., I'll stop...)
Salarians and their science, Turians and their code, Elcor and their way of communication, Hanar and their beliefs, etc...
I don't give a crap if it's sand, snow, or jungle...the tone of ME1 and the cool species to meet and interact with and have as part of your crew? THAT is what made ME1 great. And ALL of that came from a SINGLE game. And on TOP of ALL of that, there is eezo and biotics and the alliance and council and the ship. All the rest is just window dressing.
And MEA's pretty fluttering curtains do little disguise their comparatively boring, boring, boring ass galaxy.
Edited - took out batarians, drell, and vorcha, as they came in ME2...

Well, I respect your opinion, Cyonan. But... I don't have to like it. ... Hey, Cyonan. Remember in that first ME DLC when you finally win that off world trailer home, and you look out the window and seeing the MAKO out there all beautiful, awe and all. Did it feel like another trailer park home on Earth, or somewhere... out there. Assuming you mean the apartment from the Pinnacle Station DLC, it pretty much falls under the same thing. It's all very impressive and the hand crafted stuff looks very futuristic, but the landscape feels like any other planet. As I sat there doing an APEX mission on some Earth like planet, I couldn't help but think of what you said here. That this... ... was another beautiful day on planet Earth.

Alright, how do you handle one of the many copy paste waste of time outposts scattered all over Andromeda? I mean, how many times do you have to fight the exact same battle before you notice something really broken? Only took me one battle to crack the secret sauce. Jeckpack discussions we can leave for MP, where there's a little more meat to the gameplay per usual.

I thought this guy in this YouTube video did a good job pointing out inconsistencies with that so called first contact thing and the whole language barrier hard to wrap head around issue. Timestamped @ 6:23, but the real meat where he brings up a very good point starts and briefly ends at 8:20.

1. yes and how is the ketts forts architecture feeling similar is unbalancing gameplay? that is one of the thing you spoke about in your previous posts. As I explained before why the ketts architecture should be different from one another? its the same faction and that is not different from actual human history especially the romans who had the same architecture for their camps, when it was built it was done the same way as the previous one, so if course the things are going to look similar when its about the ketts. It makes sense in the context because its the same FACTION. And how many kett outpost there is in all of the game? there is one one voeld an other on Eos, and that is pretty much it, the others are outlaw outpost on eladen and kadara, that are certainly not the same architecture as the ketts. And Yes there is also small outpost that you sometime do for small quests like saving angaran resistant fighters, but Any game is a bit repetitive even witcher 3, does the experience feel totally different at the times of a new bandit encampments? Do they all feel completely different from one another? every game has a thing you will have to do over an over, this time its fighting an ennemy in an outposts that totally makes sense to have it a bit similar. By the way each ketts outpost give us a different story mission after doing them, (contrarly to other games like far cry where ennemy outposts are purely there for gameplay reasons and don't have a named ennemy like the invictor on Eos), for exemple on voeld you get to meet the angaran AI once you have dealt with the kett on the outposts and have to make a choice about it.

Polishing?

For me (and I am coming into this discussion late, but I skimmed most posts), the power of ME1 had fuck all to do with the look of it and everything to do with the novelty of it. It was the tone set by the music. It was the politics of the citadel. It was learning about the different species and engaging with them and making some of them part of your crew. I don't need the whole trilogy to compare to MEA. ALL FROM ME1The Quarians - space nomads who went on pilgrimages for the good of their "tribe". (ok..., I'll stop...) Salarians and their science, Turians and their code, Elcor and their way of communication, Hanar and their beliefs, etc... What a beautiful colourful outgoing post. Loved all your points you've brought up. Too bad I missed what you wrote about the other alien races. Think you could humor me and write about them again just like how you originally wrote them?

Think you could humor me and write about them again just like how you originally wrote them? Gah! I can't remember what I wrote. I was ranting before I had my tea! That always = stream-of-consciousness wackiness for me. But if I had to come up with something now, in my calmer state....I would say batarians with their pirate gangs and slaver rings, vorcha with their screeching voices, and the drell with their sad, somber eyes that remember everything.

Only sometimes you do these small outposts, what?! They're like most of the gameplay in this game. And just because so called Witcher III has them too doesn't excuse it for the garbage no thought filler gameplay they provide. Especially when so much of the game is this repetitive cheap outpost junk filler. And not like the main camps on each planet are much better.

What about the quests of the hackers that want to eliminate AI, the mob war on kadara, the rivalries between krogans (whatever it is the different clan that we have to capture a fiend to make them cooperate or nak morda), meeting the religious angara leader on havarl, the remnant base that give back a balance of the climates, the first human birth of andromeda, the poacher hired by an angara that is a well intentioned scientist, etc. Ah yes apprently these quest don't exists for whatever reasons... No the outopost are certainly not most of the game, at least certainly not the way you say it, you overly exagerate their importance. If you are speaking about the respawning kett outpost, you know you can avoid them, do you?

In regards to Tatooine, all one has to ask is which one looks more sci-fi between these two pics; ^ Hey look, it's Eos! Trick question. There's no difference. What do I win?

You win the no suspension of disbelief Grammy. The Oscar of no suspension of disbelief is reserved for Cyonan. Sorry, Cyonan owns the forum, nothing I can do about it.
