I would like to apologize in advance for this stupid question. To start this off, I'd like to say that I really enjoy Jaal as a companion and this is not an attempt to bash him. I'm simply looking for some clarification here, to help disperse my confusion. I couldn't help but notice that Jaal has gained quite the gathering of fangirls. He is by far the most popular romance in the game, and some people are calling him the new Solas (Which I don't get, by the way, because him and Solas are nothing alike? Like, at all? ). This attraction to Jaal is something that completely eludes me, honestly. He's a nice person, sure, and he's got that quirky charm, but I can't actually imagine ever fangirling over him. Anyone would like to tell me why he has become such a heartthrob? I would genuinely like to know. Normally, I understand where most fangirls are coming from, but in this case... Nope. Can't. Again, apologies for this ridiculous question Genuine curiosity took over me

Doesn't seem that odd to me. I didn't romance Jaal, but he was one of my favourite characters. It makes sense that people would want to romance someone they like, and it also gives them more scenes and thus more depth.

They gave a lot of attention to his romance arc including the sex scene. He is one of the new species. He is emotional and sensitive. Nice voice. Also it isn't a tragic romance.. yet I'm not a big Jaal fangirl (never romanced him) even though I like him as a companion but I see why some girls would be into it.

Again, apologies for this ridiculous question Genuine curiosity took over me I totally feel the same way. I like his character a lot, but his romance doesn't appeal to me at all either. I will say this - before I met him in the game I was totally excited for it. I saw him in that trailer where he saunters up to Scott and was like 'who is that!? please let him be a romance!' I loved his design (still do, actually) and was super curious about him and the Angara in general. And I dig alien/human pairings in fiction. I was all aboard the speculation train and was one of the people who helped his thread get to like a thousand pages before we even heard his voice. And then I met him in the game and was just... not into it. Was planning to romance him eventually anyway just to see it, but as I learned more about said romance I decided it wasn't for me. I could go on about why, but, you want to know why women do like him. I'm curious about this too. But I also never understood all the swooning over Thane and Fenris either. Meanwhile I adore Liam, though he isn't very popular... maybe I just have weird taste? I love Solas though and don't get where that comparison is coming from... I do remember there being tons of Solas fans in the Jaal thread back when I used to participate, but I'd say the characters are nothing alike.

Melcara beats me. I thought he will be like Zenith, but I was disappointed. I have finished the romance, because it fits with the story perfectly, but I did not not enjoy it in the digitally in love with a character way. The VA is terrible. And, unlike fialka, I am a Thane's girl to the end of time. Fenris, to a degree as well, though the moment Anders shows up, I am spoken for, heh.

Ahh old times. I remember people back on the original BSN asking why Cullen romance was so popular. Jaal is great character and I can see why people would develop feelings for him. He cares about Ryder a lot and always tries to be sweet and gentle with her. Plus, we go through a lot with Jaal. And a lot of people like cats... he looks like one.

I did not understand Cullen-mancing till i played almost the full game interacting with him. If I were to manage a second run of Inquisition, I'd romance him. But Jaal, after one and half games, I got... nothing. And he is very fine looking. But the voice, the mannerism and the completely alien family structure is just too alien for me to experience the romantic vibe.

Some people just can't get into aliens. It's good to hear that you can at least get an alien vibe from him.

Just needs a forked tongue... For what it's worth, I romanced Jaal my 2nd playthrough, and yeah, he's not for me, either. I'm very happy for those that love him. I do take him with me nearly everywhere for story reasons, he's great on Voeld, Havarl, Kadara, and Elaaden (even though he complains a lot about the latter 2 planets), and it allows me to recruit a lot of Angara for the resistance, but everything from his character design to his personality to his voice just isn't attractive to me.

I liked his initial letter/email. Very sweet. But after a while...things felt...a little weird. His romance kinda creeped me out...and it is not because he was an alien (Thane was my beau in ME2) nor his seriousness/bluntness (loved Solas in DAI). Honestly...he felt too old to be getting up on my 20-something Ryder. He was like an old man with a teenager's bedroom. Seriously? Let's look at my star mobile and hold hands? Ugg. Boys from my teenage years had more game. I went through it to see how it all played out, but frankly...I found it gross. Left a bad taste in my mouth. (heh) And also may have ruined cunnilingus for me (thanks Bioware).

Lets see... Jaal is my Canon Ryder LI. To me he best fits the Ryder I wanted to play, a professional/emotional infiltrator who has everything to learn and takes things at heart. Jaal is perfect to shower around this new Galaxy and likes to tinkers too (her professional side) while he's also a nice star-crossed romance for the girl who dreamed of ''first contacts'' (her emotional side). Now to put it in perspective, I got casual hothead Ryder with Liam, cause she is ok with learning-as-you-go and making mistakes, and a male Ryder with Reyes (cause how can you resist that wink). To me Jaal is just the one that fits the story better, he's written well enough and his arc works with the game, I had a great time romancing him since I usually keep him around for story reasons. Still, that is no where near how attached I was toward characters like Garrus, Solas or Zevran. In those game I felt the romance had an effect on the characters (mine and the npc) where Jaal is more of a feel good story you go along with because why not, he's sweet, mysterious and knowledgeable, caring... no reason not to let Ryder go for it.

You're not alone girl, he's incredibly overrated (I'm probably getting tiresome talking about it). When they showed that one shot of him pre-launch I was like, damn I'd fuck that. But somehow it turns out to be the only shot in the game where he actually looks hot, his voice is not sexy, and that excessive sappy mush from both him and Ryder made me so uncomfortable I could die. I'm just glad I watched the youtube video of it before playing the game to avoid cringing into the stratosphere

For most of us ladies, we like a guy who respects us, cherishes us and doesn't think of sex when he takes you to his bedroom. Jaal is also a good friend and a sweet man. He truly loves Sara. He loves her body, mind and spirit and doesn't objectify her or belittle her as a leader. He is also only a few years older than her, and my Sara works better with older, mature men who are kids at heart, but can carry a conversation that's intelligent. Looks-wise, all the Angara are beautiful, but Jaal's animators worked extra hard on him, so his big, expressive eyes are what I love most. No matter what situation you're involved in, if he's in your squad, his face holds tons of emotions and they change based on the options you choose. I also love his sex scene because he asks if Sara wants to be with him that way and his love doesn't change if you say no. He's not about sex only like most men and if you do have sex, he's all about putting Sara's pleasure first. He's an old-fashioned gentlemen and that's my major appeal and I will never romance another in MEA.

Hmm, I haven't done Jaal's romance yet, but I did like the character a lot and his friendship arc with Ryder. I also did romance Solas too, so I suppose I do see where people are comparing them...minus the whole twist ending/betrayal/secret identity thing. Both are connected to a mysterious ancient race, whose ruins you explore together, and he feels plot relevant. The Angaran also seem a bit more mystical I think too, with their beliefs in reincarnation and whatnot, somewhat like elves. But I would say he strikes me as a more sensitive and less cynical Javik (who I also liked). It's also clear they put a lot of effort into Jaal, and I think that shows in his popularity. I saw the elf comparison too, but the Solas stuff came from Jaal being a plot romance, and part of the race the story is about. Also, before the game came out, the devs would say nothing about him either (there was even a rumor his romance was happy and sad). Once some of them and the voice actors started teasing the lady gamers that if they like Alistair, wait until they meet Jaal and how his voice would drive us crazy, most of us realized he was not going to be a Solas-type. Jaal ended up being a mix of Alistair, Cullen, Garrus (romance-wise) and Thane if you count the tragic love story.
