Why is Jaal's romance so popular?1

Jaal will probably be my Sara's romance more than anyone else but sometimes his voice and voice acting remind me of an old gramppa. He just sounds so old.

I know...his voice does not sound 27. 

I didn't know that Ike voiced the doctor on Prodromos. I'll have to go listen to him talk again. I'm always so intrigued by that doctor's unusual face that I don't pay much attention to the voice. 

Do you remember the mission where Ike and Jaal's voice actor are together.

Jaal does have a unique voice and way of speaking and I wouldn't want it to change...it's all belongs to Jaal now, but I have to laugh at times, when he sounds so old. But that makes Jaal more special. 

This, also in a lot of lighting and angles he looks weird and old too. Evfra on the other hand looks and sounds hot in all circumstances, I don't care that Vehn calls him an old man

I feel bad for the rest of the crew because there is really only one open position for them to go anywhere since Jaal is ALWAYS going with me. 

I'm about ready to do the monoliths on Havarl in my second game so I'll be able to listen to the Roekaar's voice. 

Well, Jaal pretty much has a textbook romance (aside from that banter glitch where he sometimes still flirts with other women while romancing Ryder), complete with introducing Ryder to his mom. I personally find it all bit too syrupy, like I've opened a book with a pastel cover and Fabio on the front, but I can see how it appeals to people. Besides, the whole angaran schtick of being very honest about your emotions actually makes his flowery language and openly romantic behaviour sensible.

Jaal is also the new alien race companion and thus a lot of the plot centers around him because it centers around the angara (and the revelations concerning them that we learn along the way) and he's the only angara you have on board. They gave him a lot of attention - a couple special small cutscene content and lots of voice lines for comments he makes because he knows the Andromeda galaxy best -, so romancing him feels rewarding. A character who has a lot of importance in the game will often feel like a better romance because you just see more of them, even if it's not romance-related. I think the Solas comparison would come in here. I feel like the Solas romance was the one that ultimately had the most plot importance because it gave you hints to his identity and revealed an important fact about Dalish culture; it also made the last DLC on a whole much more dramatic in context. As personalities, I don't see a lot of similarities between them, either.

Being new alien he got quite lot of interested and fans even before release. Some people (including myself) just like aliens. Then there isn't lot of options for f/m romances, Liam from what I have gathered lacks content compared to Jaal and Reyes although being pretty popular himself isn't a squadmate. So he seems like best option in the game for f/m romance.

My Sara is into him, and having played through Vetra's romance, and Liam's (I have no interest in playing a heterosexual male Ryder), he does have the most content, and a nude scene. However, personally, I'm not that into him; he is a bit too emotional for me, but he does look like a cat, and I love cats. Mine lives on a pedestal, as he should.

Because what's the alternative? 

Jaal's dialogue does have some accent and tone inconsistency, and it makes me wonder how long it took for the VAs to record lines.  I once watched an interview where Elias Toufexis discussed VA consistency in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.  He said the lines got recorded in sessions over more than a year, so how he performed Adam Jensen at the beginning of the process and how he performed Jensen at the end were different.  But in-game, a line from a year ago might play thirty seconds before a line from a year later, so sometimes the performance was weirdly inconsistent.

Well, I like his romance because of who Jaal is as a character and how he and Sara interact in the game. He's debonair, wise, caring, not afraid to show his emotions, honest, and honorable. He's got some boyish innocence that pairs well with Sara's youth, but also strength and maturity. He lets you know where he stands. He grows as the game plays out, learning who he is and what he wants. He feels like a true partner for Sara, someone who will be by her side when she needs him and she can help him in-turn (similar to FemShep and Garrus).

His romance takes time, too, and his place as a new species encountered in a new galaxy adds to the intrigue. His heavy involvement in the story is also a bonus.


PLUS, the guy is flippin' gorgeous! Not to mention a nice voice and sense of style..... and have you seen his butt
