because he's a super nice guy apparently Just gotta brag this was made specifically for me. So happy lol But, I think Jaal's romance is great. I think everyone has their own reason for liking it. No one should TELL you why you like it. You'll like it on your own, if you do. It's popular because people enjoy it for different reasons I assume

Jaal will probably be my Sara's romance more than anyone else but sometimes his voice and voice acting remind me of an old gramppa. He just sounds so old.

I know...his voice does not sound 27. His voice actor is 35 and sounds much younger in Dreamfall Chapters. I'm guessing the modulation adds to how he voices Jaal, but the devs said they wanted Jaal's voice to be unique to the rest of the Angara too. He sounds a bit like Javik and in one mission Ike (Javik's voice actor) is with Jaal and you can hear the similarities and differences. I think Ike is also the doctor on Prodromos.

Do you remember the mission where Ike and Jaal's voice actor are together. Jaal does have a unique voice and way of speaking and I wouldn't want it to change...it's all belongs to Jaal now, but I have to laugh at times, when he sounds so old. But that makes Jaal more special.

Umm. He's not anywhere nearly as incredible a character as Solas.
He's not bad, though. He has a wonderful voice actor.

It's soothing and gentle, but when he and Liam start arguing or swearing, it's hilarious! And when he greets Sara affectionately he's so damn loud even she comments on it haha

He has a lot of things to say, and sometimes it's just too funny to hear him complain. On Elaaden he was covered in sand and said he gets the showers first when we return because he's suffered more than we could ever know lol I love Javik, so hearing him again like that made me so happy!

Well, Jaal pretty much has a textbook romance (aside from that banter glitch where he sometimes still flirts with other women while romancing Ryder), complete with introducing Ryder to his mom. I personally find it all bit too syrupy, like I've opened a book with a pastel cover and Fabio on the front, but I can see how it appeals to people. Besides, the whole angaran schtick of being very honest about your emotions actually makes his flowery language and openly romantic behaviour sensible.
Jaal is also the new alien race companion and thus a lot of the plot centers around him because it centers around the angara (and the revelations concerning them that we learn along the way) and he's the only angara you have on board. They gave him a lot of attention - a couple special small cutscene content and lots of voice lines for comments he makes because he knows the Andromeda galaxy best -, so romancing him feels rewarding. A character who has a lot of importance in the game will often feel like a better romance because you just see more of them, even if it's not romance-related. I think the Solas comparison would come in here. I feel like the Solas romance was the one that ultimately had the most plot importance because it gave you hints to his identity and revealed an important fact about Dalish culture; it also made the last DLC on a whole much more dramatic in context. As personalities, I don't see a lot of similarities between them, either.

In terms of construction, Jaal's romance is a pastiche of a lot of elements that were popular in previous romances. Earnest like Kaidan. Curious like Liara. Sweet like Alistair. Deep, reverb voice like Garrus and Thane. Some aesthetics and character traits from Garrus and Javik. IMO borrowing stuff from other romances makes sense; if these traits worked in isolation, they should work together as long as the character as a whole still feels cohesive.
That last bit is up to personal opinion. For me, Jaal worked as a character because he was sufficiently different from his romance inspirations to be his own character, even if I could recognize the "origins" of his romance. The fact that the angara are new aliens certainly helps too.

Being new alien he got quite lot of interested and fans even before release. Some people (including myself) just like aliens. Then there isn't lot of options for f/m romances, Liam from what I have gathered lacks content compared to Jaal and Reyes although being pretty popular himself isn't a squadmate. So he seems like best option in the game for f/m romance.

My Sara is into him, and having played through Vetra's romance, and Liam's (I have no interest in playing a heterosexual male Ryder), he does have the most content, and a nude scene. However, personally, I'm not that into him; he is a bit too emotional for me, but he does look like a cat, and I love cats. Mine lives on a pedestal, as he should.

For me personally - Jaal's a big guy who's a bit shy while he's not sure if you reciprocate his feelings but very open and affectionate once he knows you do. His sex scene is hot and goes where few, if any, female PC/male LI romances have gone before, and the romance in general has a healthy balance of romantic love and sex without prioritizing one over the other. Cool African accent.
Due to my own preferences it would have been absolutely perfect if Jaal was evil, but I doubt I'll ever get that in a game, BW or otherwise, so this is as close as it gets.

I would like to apologize in advance for this stupid question. To start this off, I'd like to say that I really enjoy Jaal as a companion and this is not an attempt to bash him. I'm simply looking for some clarification here, to help disperse my confusion. I couldn't help but notice that Jaal has gained quite the gathering of fangirls. He is by far the most popular romance in the game, and some people are calling him the new Solas (Which I don't get, by the way, because him and Solas are nothing alike? Like, at all? ). This attraction to Jaal is something that completely eludes me, honestly. He's a nice person, sure, and he's got that quirky charm, but I can't actually imagine ever fangirling over him. Anyone would like to tell me why he has become such a heartthrob? I would genuinely like to know. Normally, I understand where most fangirls are coming from, but in this case... Nope. Can't. Again, apologies for this ridiculous question Genuine curiosity took over me Because what's the alternative?

Jaal will probably be my Sara's romance more than anyone else but sometimes his voice and voice acting remind me of an old gramppa. He just sounds so old. I don't really like his voice neither. It annoys me most of the time. Especially when he is accenting weirdly. I don't know how to call it. Other Angara don't talk like this.

Jaal's dialogue does have some accent and tone inconsistency, and it makes me wonder how long it took for the VAs to record lines. I once watched an interview where Elias Toufexis discussed VA consistency in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. He said the lines got recorded in sessions over more than a year, so how he performed Adam Jensen at the beginning of the process and how he performed Jensen at the end were different. But in-game, a line from a year ago might play thirty seconds before a line from a year later, so sometimes the performance was weirdly inconsistent.

Well, I like his romance because of who Jaal is as a character and how he and Sara interact in the game. He's debonair, wise, caring, not afraid to show his emotions, honest, and honorable. He's got some boyish innocence that pairs well with Sara's youth, but also strength and maturity. He lets you know where he stands. He grows as the game plays out, learning who he is and what he wants. He feels like a true partner for Sara, someone who will be by her side when she needs him and she can help him in-turn (similar to FemShep and Garrus). His romance takes time, too, and his place as a new species encountered in a new galaxy adds to the intrigue. His heavy involvement in the story is also a bonus. PLUS, the guy is flippin' gorgeous! Not to mention a nice voice and sense of style..... and have you seen his butt [ disengages from perv mode....]

Other Angara from Havarl don't talk like this. I think it's to make him sound refined or we can just headcanon he picked up that accent from being on Aya too long lol The actor himself has a British accent, but he's also from Zimbabwe, but in Dreamfall Chapters he doesn't sound British, so I don't think it's Nyasha's voice itself. He has a very soft and higher British sounding voice irl.
