Fan input? Heh. How many fans wanted them to make a loot-shooter for example?
They will make a game, with more or less "BioWare magic", and we'll decide whether it's worth our money or not. Like pretty much any other developer too.
If it's a good game, great! I'll happily buy and play it.
If it isn't - well, other studios make really good stuff too.

The Book of Unwritten Tales has excellent German VA. You can't go wrong with the German voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger for an orc chieftain... On topic: I finished the game last night. I suspected a supernatural angle early on due to the rats reacting so strongly to light and fire and I wasn't disappointed. Overall I really liked the atmosphere, the story and its endearing characters. Kudos to the (English) VAs for bringing them to life! Writing, graphics, sound and VA all combined to a wonderfully atmospheric whole. I also found it very refreshing that Amicia didn't turn from sheltered noble girl to remorseless killer within one chapter or some such. The boss fights seemed like a little jump in difficulty, especially the last third of the second one, where it took me quite a few attempts to get my positioning right. All in all a very enjoyable experience, and I'm planning to do a completionist playthrough soon.

I kinda neglected to post Alexios's progress for quite a while, so here goes.
- Alexios has been reunited with his dear family. The Adrestia is a family run business now. - All but two malakes cultists have been eliminated and their leader has been revealed. It was the person Alexios had suspected for a while now. - He's now a top tier misthios! The hell horse skin looks impressive, but I'm still going with "Spartan Renegade" for Phobos. Matches Alexios's "Spartan War Hero" look very nicely. - Turned out there was more to the tale of the Minotaur than just a funny dude with a cow's head. That Minotaur is history now. - All those legendary animals Artemis wanted dead have been hunted down now. Imagine the enthusiasm when the last one turned out to be a... farting pig. Alexios refused to kill Daphnae afterwards. Just because some crusty goddess supposedly made that rule? Fuck that shit. - Oh, and he's the king of the arena now, but has no desire to go back.
Now if he could only find that ostraka in the palace of Knossos...

I haven't watched any episode of season 8 because I had a nagging hunch that it would piss me off something fierce, especially the ending.
I've rarely felt so vindicated.

Kitguns are ridiculously powerful. I don't have a Tombfinger yet, but I do have a Rattleguts and a Catchmoon one, both with okay rivens that mostly balance out their weak points, making them more pleasant to use instead of even more powerful. The Rattleguts is a rapid fire weapon with a reasonable crit and status chance that's great for everything on the star map, and the Catchmoon is basically a one handed Arca Plasmor with unlimited punch-through through enemies and ridiculous damage output, though with limited range and projectile travel time. Both have a Pax Charge arcane so they don't need any ammo. I have yet to try the Exploiter Orb since I tend to do everything solo whenever possible. How hard is it compared to the Profit-Taker? I can manage that fight on my own, with some gritted teeth and muttered curses, but I only do it whenever I get a resource booster from the login rewards so I can pick up two toroids instead of one for my troubles. Congratulations on the Kuria statuette! Finally, I would heartily recommend the Larkspur archgun that came with Fortuna if you haven't tried it yet. I know archguns are not considered important equipment by many players, but now that they are required as heavy weapons for some boss fights and the upcoming Railjack update will feature some archwing action, getting a good archgun may be worth looking into. Before the Larkspur, I used the Imperator Vandal for everything, but the Larkspur is my new favourite. The primary fire is like a gigantic Atomos - limited range but jumps to other enemies over a good distance which makes obliterating big packs quick and easy, and the secondary fire launches a big energy projectile for longer distance work. Satellite defense has never been so easy.

I don't work in the games industry, I code web shops and similar stuff. Crunch is generally referred to as "over time" here (which intentionally sounds harmless, but at least it's not as cynical as "[insert company name] magic") and always gets ordered from above, usually by the people who caused it in the first place, which means that guilt wouldn't work very well anyway.

I already heard positive feedback from this game. How would you compare to Senuas Sacrifice? Both are very intense games for me. Story and atmosphere wise, Senua's Sacrifice is more a journey into her own mind on which she doesn't meet a single human being and it's quite obvious that you're not traveling through actual reality. A Plague Tale is mostly grounded in the real medieval world, the only mysterious thing, at least initially, being the incredible surge of rats and their very obvious fear of light and fire. Gameplay wise, Senua's Sacrifice is exploration, rune puzzles and combat, something Senua is very good at. A Plague Tale is stealth, i.e. sneaking and distracting enemies, puzzles (often about fire and how to use it to foil the swarms of rats) while combat takes a back seat - occasionally Amicia uses her sling (upgradeable through crafting) to hurt and kill people, but more often it's a tool to dislodge items, light fires or create distracting sounds. That's as good of a comparison as I can make after a few hours of gameplay.

I'm having a great time so far! A Plague Tale evokes a great atmosphere of a medieval world turned into a nightmare with a touch of occult mystery to spice things up. I really like Amicia and Hugo and, after a decades long career of gaming, I still hold my breath whenever I try to sneak past the next bunch of Inquisition soldiers or attempt to dodge or distract another swarm of rats. I care for them and the people (and even animals) they meet, a feat very few games from much bigger and better funded studios manage these days, so kudos to the devs for that. It also runs as stable as a rock and gave me the Coat of Arms DLC for free despite my purchase not being a preorder as the icing on the cake. A Plague Tale deserves to be purchased at full price on release in my opinion. It restored some hope for the games industry in me. Thanks to everyone in this thread who helped me with my purchasing decision.

This game caught my eye on Steam just before its release and is currently #1 on my wish list. It looks like a real surprise hit, from an Indie studio that, as far as I know, has not produced anything really remarkable until now. In the age of lootboxes, multiplayer and filler content, it gave me an "almost too good to be true" vibe, which made me hesitate to purchase it so far.
Any word on bugs / stability issues? That's the only thing that's really holding me back from buying it now.

The combat. Pretty much all aspects of it.
- Complete mess with fucked up hitboxes that didn't match the size or shape of the model they were attached to - Sabotaged the setting where magic is often heavily sanctioned by giving warriors and rogues magic-like abilities - Implemented a "tactical camera" by merely attaching the camera to an invisible character which prevented it from passing through or over obstacles - Healing spells replaced with barrier spam. Yay, progress. - Lack of a tactics system from DAO / DA2.
The fewer aspects of that shitshow return the better.
The null-effort "side quests": click a world item to get a text popup that tells you to go elsewhere to click another world item for another text popup and congrats, you completed a "quest".
NPCs initiating dialogue when you got close enough, then said NPC wandering off, interrupting the conversation.
Like in all recent BioWare titles: terribly convoluted UI.

Amazon prices for physical copies are under €30,- in Germany now, while download codes are still full price. They just want to get rid of the [Pb] on their shelves. Download codes don't waste storage capacity.
I strongly doubt that Anthem will go free to play any time soon.

That's a load of never done before bullshit.
In your opinion.
It doesn't change the fact that this was, and I believe still is, the intention behind the game.
It may have been the intention, but it certainly has been done before, and in my opinion, better too. Warframe has decisions in story mode, some memorable single player quest moments and an operator with very customizable looks and five different skill trees in addition to the skills attached to the by now about 40 frames. Which RPG / looter shooter elements does Anthem have that mark it as "not seen or done before" in this context?

Evidence as in original comments from Bioware that the plan is to add story content regularly at no extra charge; evidence as in EA managment recently re-iterating its continuing support for Anthem; evidence as in Bioware re-iterating continued support for Anthem; evidence as in Bioware ruling out an Anthem 2; evidence as in tweets of the cast at recording sessions; incontrovertible evidence as in the fact that new story content was actually recently added to the game in the form of a recent new NPC sub-plot with Sev and his relationship with Corvus, in addition to his comments about the new Stronghold which progressed the story.
You know, evidence as in all the people who make the decisions at all levels telling us that they are going to do it and then doing it.
If you have actual evidence to the contrary. Feel free to post about it.
Evidence like a roadmap that mostly wasn't delivered and then buried?

It certainly wouldn't be worth it for me. Even if all its technical troubles were resolved I'd still find it a boring game - even during the public demos I found myself losing interest and thinking of other games I could play instead after just a few hours, and I like loot shooters.
Also the combination of Anthem's solo-unfriendliness and the player base already circling the drain does not make this look like a smart long time investment.
Wait for a few months and see which way it goes. If things are looking up by then, maybe get it for a tenner. But there's better loot shooters for less money out there.

Same thing with cake. They can have seriously diminishing returns depending on how much you eat and sometimes really bad filling can ruin really good chocolate. Uhm, okay... Besides the point that I'm making that in this scenario both cake/ lootboxes look yummy, they are both tempting. But you don't know what is inside them. So you have a choice, do you risk it...or not. Easier to justify when it's free cake but you have a responsibility. You also have the choice to buy your chocolate cake from a different baker, one who tells you up front what filling is inside and charges you a fixed price for it. Why defend that practice in the first place, trying to trick people into repeatedly spending money until they got the good item from the box of mostly poor stuff? It's a shady practice. Sure, people have their own responsibility to not fall for it, but that doesn't make it less shady. It's doubly shady with virtual in-game items than with cake, because every cake requires time and resources to make. In-game items require those resources only once.

Lootboxes are about as preadatory as chocolate cake you aren't sure the filling of. Even if the filling was random, you still had a tasty chocolate cake. Lootboxes often repeatedly give low quality duplicates or consumables that you don't want or need, meaning you wasted your money or paid way too much for what you got. What about turning the tables and letting gamers buy games with a money lootbox instead of a fixed price? "Contains 5 money items, one guaranteed uncommon ($10) plus an increased chance at a rare ($20)"?

Problem is Bioware trained Frostbite programmers to work on Anthem but EA intervened and moved them to FIFA. How is "good leadership" going to help with corporate meddling? That is just another leadership problem to fix then, just one level higher. Neither problem can be fixed by the devs themselves anyway, it's up to EA to install a good leadership in their studios as well as getting rid of the yo-yos within their own ranks that fuck up projects with their decisions. It's a frustrating situation. I code for a living too, no in the gaming business, but I run into the same kind of problem every week. People without any hands-on knowledge make decisions for "political" reasons while ignoring any expert in-house advice and then let others deal with the consequences while the deadlines remain the same. Then the project is completed with some crunch and extra effort, and the next project is run in just the same way because hey, it worked last time, right?

Due to Dragon Age 4 using Anthem's code base there will now be loading screens whenever you access your inventory, your map or your quest log.
Skill trees will be moved to equipment properties, leading to interesting new equipment options like two handed axes with +15% to chain lightning damage and mage staves with +10% bow attack speed.
Gameplay will be exploration based, with a single player part inside the city of Minrathous (slightly larger than DAI's Val Royeaux) and 4 player co op outside.
Live service features will "continue the storytelling" with exciting events like "Tevinter Terror", which spawns three extra Tevinter Mages in the lower right corner of the map, and "Qunari Quandary", which makes all Qunari enemies explode on death.
Companions and romances will not be in the game on the release, but the devs will state that it's not absolutely, totally, utterly impossible that they may be added at a later point. Maybe.
There will be an extensive roadmap with additional breathtaking features to look forward to.

Their problem is shitty leadership. If clearly Frostbite was such a problem and BioWare was faffing about with Beyond Anthem without a clue about its direction anyway, any semi-decent quasi-professional leader would have picked a bunch of software engineers and tasked them with nothing else but familiarizing themselves with Frostbite and building tools to facilitate its use in current and future projects. That would have created a solid foundation to build on.
Get some good leadership first. That will solve most other problems.

This is not an option. People bought a game when they were promised it will keep being supported for a long time. If they cut all support right now, they might be facing legal repercussions on top of the absolutely destroyed reputation. Hm, I should have worded it differently. I didn't mean "pull the plug so that the game stops working because there's no more server to connect to" because yes, that would be the last nail into their reputation and lead to legal unpleasantness. But they could keep it running with a tiny skeleton crew (maybe 3 to 5 people) that basically just make sure that the servers don't spazz out and the automated freeplay events trigger as intended, keeping the game active in its current state without additional content or fixes, i.e. the same super-minimal life support MEAMP is running on with a rattling breath.

If BioWare has any serious plans to fix Anthem, it has to be done by the Edmonton team and not by Austin. Figuring out someone else's spaghetti code and trying to fix it or add to it rarely goes well for even the most competent developer, so I wouldn't expect any significant changes or updates any time soon. On the other hand, if they are going to fix the game they need to hurry before the ever dwindling player base makes any such effort pointless.
Either way, something's going to give. Edmonton is supposed to develop Dragon Age 4, Austin is maintaining Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Anthem seems to be stuck between them. Unless they're hiring more talent, something's going to suffer.
As the story of Warframe shows, any game that is expected to offer continued live service and new content to go with it, for years to come, needs the full attention of a rather large dev team, and in the case of BioWare those devs would need to be diverted from DA4 and/or SWTOR. If Anthem ends up with a skeleton crew, all we can realistically expect is free play events and minor bug fixes and balance changes - not enough for any longevity given the dearth of content, eroding player base and numerous issues.
A no-win situation if I've ever seen one. But Anthem seems the most expendable one to me, so my suggestion would be to make it quick and painless...
