i don't see much competition so far. Maybe Persona. Maybe BOTW. But honestly if HZD wins any RPG of the year awards the genre is probably doomed. Best RPG's of 2017 so far if we're being somewhat loose: 1) Zelda: BoTW 2) MEA 3) Prey (if it qualifies for a true RPG) Not much else on the radar... I really cant think of anything coming out that would change this. Now, if you counting small studio independents... maybe there's a couple that could reposition that list... but I can't think of any... RPGs (in the classical sense) are becoming less common. But I stand by may statement that MEA so far is the Best 2017 RPG you can purchase on computer, PS4 or XB1. Mainly because there really isn't anything else. Which may explain some of the resource allocation given by EA. Ehm, seriously just couple of people on BSN heard about NiER ?.....

Many don't play on PS4 and JRPG's tend to be an acquired taste in the West... even the westernized ones.

Ponytails leave the neck partially exposed. Open to kissing, I guess... Yeah but so do the short bob cuts I generally select :amirite: Yeah, but ponytails rank higher on the girly looking list MEA is NOT getting any RPG of the Year awards. i don't see much competition so far. Maybe Persona. Maybe BOTW. But honestly if HZD wins any RPG of the year awards the genre is probably doomed. Means the genre is doomed. Everyone has a fucking hard-on for HZD and Andromeda's got a bandwagon of it's cool to hate to contend with. As for the Zelda game... well. Honestly? I'm thoroughly enjoying it, and I got the deluxe edition at full price. My main problem with it so far has been pacing (which is ironic, as this was the same issue I had with ME1) - the main quest and loyalty quests keep getting interrupted and diluted by huge exploration areas where the general quest quality can fluctuate. It just isn't on the same level as the Trilogy in terms of a tight, Space Opera experience, and the weakest of the mainline ME games. But the combat? The story? The gadgets? The graphics? The skill system? All splendid. A very underrated game. FWIW, I quite like the male Ryder too. You definitely get less choice in terms of his character but he reminds me of a mix of Firefly's Mal Reynolds and Stargate's Daniel Jackson. I was a big fan of Dragon Age Inquisition too, and this title pulls quite a bit from it. In fact I'd go so far as to say it's like what would happen if DAI and ME1 had a baby. The trick with the pacing is setting your own pace. I find by just doing the main, vault, LM's and email missions, the game paces well. Had to do the same with DAI. Though I do recommend some side quests as you get some nice surprises in the final fight. Vaults, planet story arcs (Kadara Leadership, Elaaden colony, Voeld and Havarl seem mostly Vault related, skip H-047c as it has little to none planetary arc), Memory Triggers (Best. Sidequest. Ever.), Loyalties. That's about it for a barebones, only "essential" playthrough.

If you are an ME fan, you'll love it no matter what I don't love ME:A precisely because I'm a huge fan of the OT.

I don't love ME:A precisely because I'm a huge fan of the OT. I love all of them. Same here I love all 4 of them too. Granted MEA does have some technical issues but Bioware are slowly but surely getting rid of them I feel on the patching side .My first couple of playthrough's were a bit rough and difficult to get through some of the problems however now since the last couple of patches the game I'm finding is pretty smooth. It still stutters slightly in the heavily populated areas like the Nexus for example I'm finding but it's a lot better than it was when the game came out. 1.06-1.08 has definitely helped the game start running nice and smooth. Even the combat is feeling more fluid now

I got deluxe at the first day and was very happy with it. When we get dlc and some more story + convos with companions it will be even better.
The thing for me is pacing, I will have to remember to "not do all the things", rather letting different Ryders focus on different things. One is perhaps very much into ancient tech, another has a new favorite planet and does all the side quests there. Just so the main story and companions become a bigger part of the PT.

I love the game and it was worth the pre-order for me. Feelings are so mixed on here, but I keep in mind that unsatisfied people tend to speak the longest and loudest about things while happy ones get on with it. You might love it, like it, hate it, whatever. Really only you will know, and only after you've tried it. If money is an issue (and I don't mean to be indelicate here at all) then I'm pretty sure it will go on some kind of mega sale some time soon.

One is perhaps very much into ancient tech, another has a new favorite planet and does all the side quests there. Just so the main story and companions become a bigger part of the PT. I just did a cool PT where I waited to do the hunting archon quest till last and focused on planet/side stuff and loyalty before that. While I was not doing PB's quests for that run I could have saved some of hers until directly after archon's ship due to triggers and it would have worked out just as well I think. This run was probably the best feeling run in terms of making sense of the game's pacing and timing for me because I went directly from hunting the archon to the city to meridian and it fit really well. PB's could have been done post game I suppose or even squeezed in right after the archon's ship which I think synchs up with Kadara bar stage so you are mostly near the end of it. Saving a few short loyalty missions might work well here to help with triggers. I was really surprised at how much smoother the flow was by putting off Archon's ship till almost last (for me last actually) and surprised at how much more sense it made. From my perspective, chasing after Archon early on seemed to shift focus to that as a priority. My Ryder was focused on what he was specifically tasked to do, create outposts and then go after archon when he felt they were ready to take him on. The pacing is still a little weird as they write it as if you have to get to his ship right away, but my Ryder viewed it as Archon needed Moshea's help to try to know more about it therefore Archon wasn't going to be able to do anything with it if she knew nothing about it so that could wait. If he could have used it he would have used it already. So no real rush to chase that down. That really changed the pacing so much.

It's not enough to keep me from buying any game, ofc, but I prefer to go filler side missions -> story related side missions -> main quests, in order not to break the story. But then again, it won't stop me from getting the game I got deluxe at the first day and was very happy with it. When we get dlc and some more story + convos with companions it will be even better. So you play them both in the same playthrough, like Jacob and Eve from Assassin's Creed Syndicate? I thought you picked up one of them in the beginning and played the entire game with her/him

I'm just doing them because I'm RP'ing a proper scout Pathfinder. A word of warning though - contrary to the hysterics, there's quite a few side missions that are really, really good.

I was ready to buy ME: Andromeda at launch (I don't preorder, even if it means that I'll pay full price 1 day later) but the first gameplays I saw made me raise an eyebrow (I always watch gameplays before buying a game and I must say I did agree with some of the critics even before they were spoken out). However, I also enjoyed the actual gameplay, so I went for the proper critics/reviewers and...well...and we all know what happened. So I didn't buy it. Even though I put ME:A aside and went on other games, I heard (who didn't?) that it has received a lot of patches; plus it's on sale right now So, is it worth getting after all the patches? Does anyone know if there'll be more patches (aka is there anything else left to be fixed)? And finally, is the deluxe version worth getting? Thanks in advance Yes it's worth grabing the game. And yes they will keep doing patches in the future. Deluxe only if the extra weapons/ armor and the ost interest you.

I thought you picked up one of them in the beginning and played the entire game with her/him You've never been able to do just every side mission first in any other ME game, including ME1. Some of the planets in that game only opened after you did Feros and others only opened after you did Noveria. The paragon/renegade morality missions only unlocked once your P/R bars were above a certain level and the Luna mission only became available after you hit Level 20. ME:A appears to work in much the same way... certain side quests will unlock when you advance the main story far enough to open up the planet those side quests are on, others will unlock after you do other side quests and some will close if you advance the area they are located in beyond a certain point (because something else starts to happen in that spot). As always, you have to wait until the squad mate gives you their loyalty mission. A big difference is that ME:A is just so much longer a game than any of the Trilogy games. It's not that you play both twins in the same playthrough. SilentK was referring just picking and choosing which side quests each individual Ryder does in different playthroughs rather than trying to make one Ryder do everything available in one playthrough of the game. The game is really just too long to be effectively played as a completionist.

By that I mean the ones that usually corellate with one's own tastes.

That's really the only reason I prefer to do them 1st, if the game keeps breaking the main quest I sometimes forget what happened in the story and, when I return to the main missions quests I'm like "but why am I doing it?" You've never been able to do just every side mission first in any other ME game, including ME1. Even as a person very critical towards MEA, I will say that the game is worth getting.Especially now that the price is dropping. It may not have been one of the most enjoyable experiences to me due to bugs, chaotic UI and me overall not being as engaged with the story but it did keep me good company for the 80+ hours I played for. I would never recommend not buying it.

That's really the only reason I prefer to do them 1st, if the game keeps breaking the main quest I sometimes forget what happened in the story and, when I return to the main missions quests I'm like "but why am I doing it?" You've never been able to do just every side mission first in any other ME game, including ME1. Well, well, it seems I'm presented with a fine challenge. I think I'm starting to like the game already I also enjoy playing games as completely as possible... but these open-world games are just getting too long and I'm finding more and more that I'd rather forfeit some side quests and continue to drive the main story forward. I'm also a pretty slow and methodical player overall, so it would probably take me twice as long as the average person to complete. The point is that you were never able to just do side quests at the beginning and all the main quests lumped together at the end. You've always had to drive the story forward to unlock more quests and some quests were always expire if you didn't get them done before moving the story forward. The side quests get mixed in with the main story. When there are so many of them, it's easier to lose sight of what the main story actually was as you do a myriad of side quests. It's a problem not unique to MEA. I had the same difficulty with TW3. Still, I wish you all the best with your play through and I hope you succeed in making it 100% complete. I'd be curious to find out how many hours total it takes you.

Most of them were only "go there and kill your target" a hundred times. But in Dragon Age and Mass Effect games I did every single one, even in DAI, which people complain so much (and I actually like it). And as for not being able to compete all side quests in the beginning of the game, it's just an minor inconvenience, not something that'll prevent me to fully enjoy the game. Many games are like that, I'll survive Regarding total hours, I'm curious to know if it'll beat DA:Origins (278 hours according to Steam)

Ehm, seriously just couple of people on BSN heard about NiER ?..... Many don't play on PS4 and JRPG's tend to be an acquired taste in the West... even the westernized ones. No such thing as a JRPG really. Anyway, I would say to the OP, get it when it's relatively inexpensive personally. It's not a bad game game overall...but it can be better. It's just very average/above average at best.

So aren't we able to do every side mission first and them focus only on the the main quest and loyalty quests? I don't really like the sound of it. It's not enough to keep me from buying any game, ofc, but I prefer to go filler side missions -> story related side missions -> main quests, in order not to break the story. But then again, it won't stop me from getting the game Not really, a lot of side missions only become available when you unlock the planet they're on, which is done by progressing the main quest, which also unlocks the loyalty missions. Having said that, you can easily just pursue the main quest and loyalty missions and practically ignore the bulk of the side missions. I'm just doing them because I'm RP'ing a proper scout Pathfinder. A word of warning though - contrary to the hysterics, there's quite a few side missions that are really, really good. Whoa! Careful now - the hysterics heads might explode. From logic.

Unlike Inquisition, Andromeda is actually a very fun game. The only reason I wouldn't have recommended Andromeda would be the face animations, they were really a disaster at launch. No matter how much I liked the game.
Now I can recommend it absoluteley.

A word of warning though - contrary to the hysterics, there's quite a few side missions that are really, really good. yeah all 3 of mine have been like proper scouting pathfinders so far as my current Sara one is too. The only difference was my Scott was military minded whereas both my Sara's have been more of a scientific mind so far as they appreciate science and know that that's going to be one of the keys to surviving out here. Whereas my Scott was moer concerned with protecting the outposts from the Kett. I'm not saying that all of them will end up that way but certainly my first 3 have.

I also waited with the archon's ship until really late, it worked well. Will probably do that again next time. One don't have to do everything in one PT and I like to let my protagonists have different focus, but it is easy just to pick up all the quests and just keep running after them. Didn't really notice it at once with the first PT but I got to the "who are my friends, it's been a while since I did a fun thing with my crew" and that was when I started to do less side quests. They are fun but I felt like I started to forget what kind of relationship this specific Ryder had with her crew. Will experiment with the next one to see what is a good balance for me
