Okay, I wasn't expecting this. It's a first, isn't it? I mean, has BioWare ever released a free trial for a SP game before?

At first, I had the highest of highs-thinking it was a dlc announcement only to realize what it was. 😔

It's called massive patching and DLC on the way. This is exactly the strategy my marketing team would employ in my business if we wanted to boost sales and especially if something else was coming down the line related to that product.

EA constantly does that. I think it's a first for BW, though. They gave DAI MP away and, ofc, had betas before.

They did Trial for Dragon Age Inquisition, however Trial version of that game no longer exists and instead you can play entire game with EA/Origin Access subscription. ME:A is first, not just BioWare game, but also EA game to get Trial version for free. This is an interesting marketing move for certain.

Yeah I guess you could take this one of two ways:
1)They wouldn't make this effort or approach if there wasn't more updates and DLC coming up this Summer and Fall.
2)They're trying squeeze any more substantial post-release sales that they can.
Personally, thinking a little bit, maybe its both. If there's DLC, there will likely be a complete edition version next year anyway.

Yes, but even through Origin you had to pay for it. In Origin, I think there are a couple of trials, e.g. Titan Fall 2. You are limited there as well (to the first 2 campaign missions I think) but you don't need to pay anything.

This is exactly the strategy my marketing team would employ in my business if we wanted to boost sales and especially if something else was coming down the line related to that product. i think you're absolutely right on the money. After the reaction to the animations and bugs right out of the gate, they've been concentrating on getting the game up to snuff in those areas... now the're trying to get make a better second impression with the improved game and boost some sales prior to going forward with their DLC plans. If this second go does boost sales a reasonable amount, we'll almost certainly be seeing some DLC. If it doesn't catch... it'll depend on just how much off the mark the sales are. That is, I'm saying the game is potentially on a bubble - that EA hasn't really decided yet whether or not they'll abandon it or keep going with it... either that, or they are committed to going forward with it and just trying to boost sales to cash in more with the DLC. The one notion I really think it quashes and really puts to bed is the one that they've abandoned the game already. Sorry suikoden - I'm willing to place a bet now - you and Jason lose.

They did do the same with DAI. In fact, you can play 6 hours of SP DAI (and unlimited MP) for free on Origin. I'm not sure about other platforms.

Yes, but before release with EA Access on Xbox and ps4 doesn't have Access for some reason-not five months after (don't be that person and correct me on how long it's been). I wonder if this explains the new "Achievement"? Complete the "early" trial before the time ends? Or whatever its called.

This actually sounds promising. With patches in place, people who had stayed away might give it a shot. If they like it, sales go up and that makes way for more things to happen with MEA (dlc, sequel). Seems like a good strategy to me.

Personally, thinking a little bit, maybe its both. If there's DLC, there will likely be a complete edition version next year anyway. Well, I think they would always try to squeeze more sales out however with the game at a solid reduced rate smart giving free trials might boost sales more, But IF you have DLC coming and that is your next item that you will be pushing, giving people access to the original game for free especially with all the patching they have done, ensures the best possible standing point for sales on the DLC. I really think we are getting DLC. I give it a month, maybe two before they announce. I figured late august- early september for DLC release. This would give mid august for the announcement of DLC (given the two weeks they usually announce prior to sale). This means that we are exactly at one month before said announcement give or take a few days. A month gives enough time for people to buy and play it before DLC. It gives enough time for people to discover it's free to try and see for themselves rather than be told what to think of it.
