Wow, I am really surprised that the Infiltrator keeps coming up as a fairly easy entry-level class. Interestingly, my SP campaign, I've played as a Soldier for my first run, and my second is now with a Sentinel. So, after I finish my first attempt at Adept, it leaves me with an Infiltrator and Vanguard I have not at all looked at (and yes, I realize that MP kits are different from the SP ones).
Thanks for taking time to explain the class roles and playability, it is very much appreciated! I know I am awfully late to the table, but I can't help it, I find this game extremely addictive.

Assuming a completely new player on bronze, with a completely new account, I'd say
Infiltrator > Vanguard > Adept > Sentinel > Engineer > Soldier

I've got the Adept to 17, and still by some reason prefer the Engineer. Even though my singularities are now floating things up, and I even remember to use warp. I also got a really odd bug described in 2012 when character can't reload, use stairs and stops doing damage; my numbers are pathetic as is, and with the bug it was just sad, I thought I was mucking things up more than usual. That sort of things have never happened on an Engineer!
the other classes sort of passively level along too because of the XP cards. Can't say I like it, b/c I like levelling classes from scratch. Maybe I will just try out infiltrator, van and sentinel for a couple of games each, and then stick to one after Adept is at 20.

IMO the best beginner's kit is the Human Sentinel.
It has tech armor so you don't die fast. It has warp, the most powerful debuff in this game, and throw, a tool to get rid of the most annoying motherfxxkers. Combine the two and you'll get one of the strongest and easiest biotic explosions. And it still needs you to do some weapon work.
Basically you can practice everything you need to on him/her. And once you can treat yourself with an acolyte, believe me, you will be happy all day around,

Of course I read the guide Yes, of course I am a bad shot! I do want to get better & play through all the classes, but overall, I feel that I have a long bright future in Bronze Tier as an Engineer So, it looks like maybe it is: Engineer, Adept, Sentinel (?), Soldier, Infiltrator, Vanguard then? You play what you like. That's the best way to do it. I like Krogan and Asari characters - so I play them. I like electric mayhem, so I play vanilla engie. Maybe your question should be: Do I want to shoot? - Pick stuff like soldier. Do I want to use powers? - Pick stuff like vanilla engie and adept. Do I want to melee? - Here things get interesting.

I love the Engineer class but in mp it's really boring IMO. When I play it in the single player it's completely different with a lot more skills, it makes it more fun. So in mp I mostly play Human Adept or Asari characters, the Valkyrie in particular but generally Asari characters are usually to my liking and very strong if specced right. Female Quarian infiltrator is alright too but I find her to die too quickly and it's like she gets injured by the slightest hit, which is a shame cause otherwise I like playing as her.

The HEng is the tech equivalent of the HSent, I think. HSent: all about the biosplosions; HEng: all about the firesplosions. For the QFI, it goes against the prevailing opinion around these parts, but I think there's no shame in speccing full fitness if you prefer your characters that way. Here's my current build, I find her fun to play and very survivable.

I feel this early, using a power class will be the best way for you to contribute to the match; most entry-level guns are pretty underwhelming, and the Mantis can be pretty unforgiving for new players, due to its single-shot clip. As you gain weapons, mods and amps for your guns, the Infiltrators and Soldiers become a lot more viable. As such, my recommendations would be as follow: 1. Engineer: squishy, but the drone provides distraction, and overload is a wonderful power: it is hitscan, meaning that enemies cannot dodge it: if you cast it at something in your reticule, it will affect it. Overload-shoot mooks, overload-incinerate for a tech burst, then another overoad for a fire detonation against bigger targets. The geth love the drone, so make sure it is always out in front of the most dangerous units against them. 2. Sentinel: really sturdy thanks to tech armor, and early on a well specced throw can supplant your guns in taking down mooks, therefore mitigating the low damage of common weapons. Warp-throw biotic explosions are great against bosses, or groups of enemies. 3. Adept: great mix of crowd control and damage, but both priming powers (singularity and warp) can be dodged, so it's relatively easy to get in trouble. Speccing singularity for detonation on rank 6 allows you to get 2 biotic explosions by using only 3 powers: singularity to prime, shockwave to detonate, then warp to prime, singularity explodes and detonates. A really powerful cycle. 4. Infiltrator: tactical cloak is great at keeping you alive, but until you get better guns and/or get better at headshotting, you might end up feeling like you are not contributing much to the match. Both the Quarian Female Infiltrator and the Salarian Infiltrator have great staggering powers that help enormously with getting headshots, and are a lot more beginner friendly kits IMO. Once you do get one of them, equipping the Mantis might be the best build to begin trying silver out 5. Soldier: another weapon-based class that might feel a bit underwhelming at first due to meh weapons. However, a properly specced cryo build soldier (spec conc shot for shatter and shredder, equip cryo ammo and spam conc shot at frozen/chilled targets) can make great use of the Avenger, so you could try that! 6. Vanguard: I feel this is the class the most requires situational awareness and map knowledge to really shine. Once you begin feeling comfortable with the mechanics and the flow of the game, it becomes really powerful thanks to its shield-recharge-on-charge mechanic, but it still relies on constant movement and awareness of where your next threat/target is, and can be a bit overwhelming early on. I hope this will be helpful there are many ways to skin a reaper, I hope you will find those that fit your playstyle best!

Thank you, it is! I have looked around my characters more, and actually my Krogan Warlord card is a Sentinel version, so I will try Sentinel after Adept, because I have a species progression there if I like it. So, I am good for now.

The thing is with infiltrators what I dont like is having 2 powers which kinda fight for cooldowns. With the human infiltrator it has tactical cloak, cryo blast and sticky grenade and what I feel happens is cryo blast slows things down... kinda. You have 2 choices basically you can either cryo blast an enemy then use tactical cloak then shoot (at which time the enemy might have gone or rolled or done something)... or tactical cloak then cryo blast then shoot but cryo blast deactivates tactical cloak... so personally I go for the grenades because they do quite a lot of damage and theyre good against things like brutes although lots of people would probably disagree with me but eh You put your finger on the thing right away! The trick is that tactical cloak does not fight with other power's cooldown, it wraps other powers in it's own cooldown, you get 2 for 1 (1 for 2). TC cooldown starts when you break cloak and ME3 TC allows power use while cloaked. When you cast from cloak whatever cooldown your power would have had, the TC cooldown replaces that with it's own (barring TC evolution 6A). Additionally, TC damage bonuses are active for almost 2 seconds after breaking cloak, so you can use a power and shoot both. And there is even more, TC cooldown is proportional to the length of time the cloak was active, if you brake cloak immediately after cloaking the cooldown is always as short as it would be with 200% weight bonus, regardless of your actual load. You get the listed TC cooldown only if you use the full length of the cloak. TC allows you to carry the heaviest weapons and still be able to cast powers. Did I mention that powers also receive the TC damage bonuses? The routine for the human infiltrator is that (assuming a semi-auto sniper rifle here) A) you spot your target, it's not moving or you are confident you can hit: 1 cloak 2 shoot 3 cryoblast 4 shoot do it right and 2,3,4 can all benefit the TC damage bonus, 4 also from the cryoblast debuff B ) you spot your target it's moving, mook type 1 cloak 2 cryoblast 3 shoot here cryoblast staggers the mook and allows you to line up your shot You can add a sticky or two before decloaking, grenades do not break cloak.

Hi folks, I'd like to level a few classes in MP to 20 at least once (fear not, in Bronze, so nobody needs to die for the sake of my curiosity). So far I started with an Engineer which is supposed to be the easiest, and next leveled an Adept (so far to level 12).
How would you list the basic human classes in terms of increased difficulty? If it helps I am a standard all thumbs kind of player that always does ranged classes, 'cause melee is way too hard.
Is it going something like:
Engineer, Adept, Soldier, Sentinel, Vanguard and Infiltrator? I would put it at Adept, Sentinel, Vanguard, Infiltrator, Engineer, Soldier. 'Cause I like watching shit asplode. Even if that really bothers you, or bothers your video card or something... I would still put it like this. Adepts are a master class, and they shouldn't be taken lightly. Vanguard and Infiltrator are fighting for the number three spot, and the only reason I put Sentinel down as #2 is because of Tech Explosions.

I see the Vanilla Human Soldier at the bottom of a lot of people's lists.
Granted domi (is your username tied to #28?) doesn't have a more complete manifest, the Vanilla Human Solder is one of the strongest kits in the game - just need a Claymore and some incendiary ammo and off ya go.

I've been playing this game so long I sometimes forget that these things aren't always common knowledge. This is extremely sound advice, and I emboldened the bit about duration as it really is important for new players to grasp the importance of not using the cloak as a 'place to hide' - it's a damage booster, and game-mechanic cooldown manipulator, and should never be active for more than half a second unless you're capping a device. It pains me regularly to see players accompanying me on an escort while they're under cloak for long periods of time - all they are doing is dumping aggro without speeding up the drone, and the best you can hope for is that they might break cloak to revive you, if they can beat your rage-gel, which in my case is unlikely. As for the wider question on the Vanilla Humans, my personal order of preference is Engineer - Soldier - Adept - Infiltrator - Sentinel - Vanguard. Unlocking the Claymore will always boost my Soldier to top spot for a game or two, but then I always go back to the Engineer being my favourite. I don't host much, so Vanguards are problematic. I'm not sure if I missed anyone explaining that Biotic Charge is the thing that keeps Vanguards alive, and even with a good connection, the extra couple of button bashes often required for BC to lock on will result in death more often than not. The Krogan, Batarian and Cabal can usually cope ok, but the Human is for hosts only, though in decent hands (Hi Nat!) he or preferably she is extremely destructive.

Concussive shot soldier was one of my go-to kits in my Bronze & Silver days. In fact when I was pulled into my very first Plat match, I loaded up my HSol with Inc ammo ADAS I (or II) and did OK.

All Basic Human kits can be absolute beasts and can't be listed in a particular order as they all depend on the map, the weapons they have, the ammo they use and the enemy they fight. The Sentinel is the most boring to me though. Human Engineer. Female one and 6 points in drone is a must.

What's number 28? If you are talking leaderboards, absolutely not & never will be. Domi is just my gaming handle of many years. It's the name of a popular hockey player from years ago in my area.

Dude, conc shot hsol rips plat too (even if you forget equipment haha).
