Matt Goldman Quits Bioware

I don't know how these messages work in Canada, but in Germany everyone would know this one for what it is: a departure that was definitely neither friendly nor cordial. The kind where you get back to your desktop from lunch break and find out that your password no longer works, in extreme cases, or where you've been on notice before and management finally had enough.

Will it have a big effect on DA4? Probably not. This game was rebooted twice (as far as we know...) so it will probably be the usual rush job in the end anyway, with or without whoever else may leave until then.

I admit, I haven’t been following the development of DA4 all that closely, but it has seemed rather... chaotic. The end result we get should be interesting, at least. On the surface, this news sounds bad, but given that the game’s already been in development for a few years... idk. I shall remain cautiously optimistic!

Does losing senior devs before the Dragon 4ge Day become a tradition?

Well, if he wasn't a shitty boss I find the lack of Twittering about it even more disturbing. They had no problems with that with Laidlaw, Darrah etc. Very curious, I definitely can't really wring anything positive out of it.

Matt didn't make a public announcement about his departure so maybe that's why there also is no public farewells from his co-workers. With so many big names gone from the Dragon Age team over the past few years I'm starting to think that even if DA4 ends up being a great game it will be the last Dragon Age game. Patrick Weekes was mentioned earlier in this thread and I think he's the next one gone (right before or after DA4 ships). I hope I'm wrong but that's simply the feeling I have gotten from some of his tweets.

Hmm, I've been over on You Tube reading Jackdaw's take on events and he mentions how only last week Matt was saying how much he loved Dragon Age, which is why his departure came as such a shock. It left me wondering, when he made his tweet last week did MG know something was in the air or that he was going to have a confrontation that would likely decide his future with Bioware and as he might well be silenced after the event, he thought he would get in his feelings about Dragon Age before that happened?

Was he anticipating something when he used these words?

Also, I notice in the words quoted from EA representative, he speaks of the people working on the game "who will carry forward our vision for the game."   Again, the use of "our" may just be coincidental and nothing significant but surely the Dragon Age team are carrying forward "their" vision for the game.   Jackdaw also picked up on this phrase and it made him uneasy.

I'm betting "creative differences" after reading everything here, I reckon EA wants something grittier, probably more in the vein of The Witcher (that means a significantly different art style than the last two entries minimum) and the idea got pushback from Matt Goldman.

Allow people their theories, this' as close as it gets to news here, for Dragon Age anyway.
