Matt Goldman Quits Bioware

There's people above and below the position of Creative Director that can fill in the workload until they have a replacement. They may even have someone in place to take over the role and are waiting to announce it. The look and style of the game will largely be in place by this point, I can't see it impacting all that much. Might be a few weeks of juggling tasks around, but it will settle down in time.

Yeah, it's not like we saw it time and time happening the past years. By now even you should have noticed it is a repeating pattern.

That would make sense. Personally I would like them to be a bit grittier for a story but as long as it's a good game I don't care.

Some people were saying he was toxic because of this on some forum.It wasn't Bioware people talking or anything ...I don't want to start some weird rumors.

There’s an actor on General Hospital who just walked away from the role because of a vaccine mandate. He’d been on the show since 1992 (with occasional hiatuses).

As one possible shred of evidence, I offer this one snarky comment Goldman made in response to someone talking about glasses fogging up because of masks:



Is that just a joke? Or is that a condescending comment from someone who “did their own research” and doesn’t believe in masks or vaccines?

Again, Goldman’s departure was probably because of another reason, but vaccine hesitancy is definitely tied to a lot of sudden dismissals these days. It might also explain why these former devs are willing to praise him on LinkedIn but not speak out against his departure, assuming it was indeed unfair.

It could be a joke....but unless there is hidden context we're missing (i.e. one of those, 'you had to be there' things), it isn't very funny. But being funny isn't actually a requirement of being a good person, I suppose

Regarding the idea of it being a vax mandate; I thought Bioware were exclusively - or almost exclusively - still working from home? I'd have thought a mandate would be tough to get across the line in those circumstances, unless it's coming and he just didn't want to wait around for it.



Maybe; but John Epler was one of the ones who made a glowing recommendation on Goldman's linkedin page, so that doesn't totally line up for me. John Epler could be called many things, I suppose, but 'toxicity enabler' doesn't strike me as one of them.

Hmm, I'm a little surprised we didn't get a public statement today.

I thought they might issue one on a Friday so they'd have the weekend for the news to diffuse.

I'm hoping they'll pick any other day than DA Day for that... 

If I had to guess... I'd say they don't have a successor in place yet. So they'll wait until they do and then they can announce both.
