i really hope not, but when i saw the twins and the Asari with the "Zorro" mask i felt a bit disappointed . They re kids. Do not really look soldiers. I was expecting more mature characters on the Shepard line.

They did seem to want a more "youthful" and light hearted approach as opposed "whelp, how we finna stop the death machine army?"
I am betting in Peebee being a silly childish person to basically act as a mascot for younger fans to latch onto.

It will be less dark and more adventurous for sure. You're not heading for certain doom because of a galaxy wide threat. You explore and discover. I don't think it will be more 'childish', but I do think it will make you feel the same excitement as a kid that reads his first scifi comic or sees Star Wars for the first time.

It's kind of necessary since Shep was an established vet, and we're pups just starting out.

Well it depends what "CHILDISH" here means, are you referring to a mature story or a young cast? because it is not the same thing. For example Avatar The Last Air Bender or Star Wars Rebels as a more young cast, than say Legends of Korra and Rogue One but I find the later a lot less mature. It really depends on the story at this point, having a more positive approach means nothing, Star Trek is more light than BSG but it does not make one "CHILDISH" either.

i guess the story is the key yes..If the story is mature i do not mind the characters so much. The story will define the game in that "childish" aspect yes.

Yes, I have no problem with a young cast, but I want a more mature story.
Think of the trilogy and while you were facing the worst kind of enemy ever, that is destroying entire planets, killing millions of people a day, you were out there having a party with your team, dancing, drinking, cracking jokes, and playing arcade games.
So much fan service left me so disappointed. A trilogy that seemed to have started so more mature ended up being so childish.

The story in ME:A is meant to feature a more inexperienced crew that's making a name for themselves during the events of the game rather than the ME Trilogy where Shep and company were mostly already well established combat vets other than Liara and Tali.
Although not being super serious and mature and dark all the time doesn't immediately mean it's going to be childish. Personally I'm a little tired of the "everything must be super mature and dark and gritty" thing the entertainment industry has had going on for a while now anyway.

I think childish is the wrong word.
There is a difference between a mature story and a story with dark themes. While often connected to each other, there are plenty of mature stories without dark themes and plenty of childish stories with dark themes.
Also, the age and initial disposition of the characters has nothing to do with how childish a story will be.
My guess is that the story won't be as dark as the original trilogy but will still be mature.

I don't consider being 22 a kid. They are young adults, growing into full adults.

So yes, I hope it has a lighter tone (as long as it takes itself seriously - I hate games, TV-Shows etc. that don't take themselves and the universe they play out in seriously!) Frankly I think ME3 didn't fit to the rest of the trilogy, not at all (it's like - yes I am exaggerating - fitting say Battlestar Galactics (which would be ME3) with Star Trek: The Next Generation (while this show had dark episodes it was never as dark as Battlestar Galactica (new version) is on a good day!) greetings LAX

Hell no considering the ESRB rating. More sex, nudity, cursing, and blood. Doesn't sound childish to me and Bio isn't known for making childish things.

Ryder is not a vet or a "War Hero" like Shepard was at that start. Ryder's story will be more the heroes story were by the end they'll be what Shepard was when Mass Effect started. Shepard went from a Hero to a Legend that was his/her progression. Ryder is starting smaller but we'll see how they grow as the series goes on. But of course, they'll never be better than Commander Shepard

In fact, you already got a miraculous solution by the start of the game, and you almost never see the real destruction the Reapers are causing, except in four missions (Earth, Palaven's moon, Thessia and Earth again). Everyone seemed to hold together very well considering what was happening.

Personally I'm a little tired of the "everything must be super mature and dark and gritty" thing the entertainment industry has had going on for a while now anyway. Sounds like it's gonna be more mature. Well from what we've heard it's supposed to be a more hopeful and optimistic story. That doesn't necessarily make it less mature, but it does suggest it's not going to be as dark as the "We're all going to die horribly when the Reapers show up" of the original trilogy. Of course it'll probably have plenty of mature themes in it, but when talking on the internet I've found that when people say "mature" they often mean "dark and gritty and serious all the time". People have a bit of a habit of acting like if it's not the Dark Knight trilogy then it's childish. Even if plenty of those "childish" things cover some pretty mature themes.

In a way even the music was quite mature in the trilogy. Mass Effect music is a piece of art. What is an "adult"? I'm sure that I'm considered an adult, but what does that mean for you? If you're thinking that it is going to be unicorns and rainbows and fairy glitter, no, it will not be "childish". The point of the cast is that they are less experienced overall than in the ot. There will still be people that are bad and things that are "mature" in the game, it is just that there will not be "If we don't fight we are going to be extinct, but we can't win if we don't use this magical thing that we just found." I think it is a good path for Bioware to try. It will be good to play a game where we are not the one hope for the galaxy. If I really want grimdark and "mature" I can read Warhammer 40K/fantasy. Can't comment on the music for that is not my genre. And I don't know how music is "mature".

Peebee is around same age as Liara. Then you have older characters like drack and maybe vetra. How do you define the look of a soldier? There are 20 year old recon marines in the world. everyone is different. The Ryder twins have training from their N7 father and the Alliance. Sure, some may say that maturity comes with age but some people are very mature for their age.

Simple, that means i do not want a story like Alice in Wonderland..just that..it is obvious that in this setting we do not have the end of the world subject. A story doesn't have to be dark to be mature i agree, also i do not think that to a story to be dark needs the end of the world theme. Many things/themes can be dark. The story doesn't need to be based in dark elements ok.. but if it has some pieces of that, that would not be necessarily bad..right? at least i wouldn t mind. Lets hope for the best.
