After SAM revives you to save you have a conversation with Lexi where she calls out SAM's motives and powers.
And all Ryder can say is either "I trust SAM" or "SAM has been programmed to help me" (or something like that).
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!
You have an A.I. in your head (we're living in the universe of the geth here) and you can't even give a REMOTELY suspicious response after it does something very dangerous to you? You can't even agree with Lexi?
Nope we have to swallow what BioWare is feeding us and choose one of two positive responses than stand up for SAM!
Someone at BioWare had a hard-on for SAM. Explains why it won't STFU during gameplay.
Personally I'd be like "Remove this thing from my head Lexi or I'll rip it out myself!"
Where's that option?

Congratulations. You've found the only example of poor role playing in the entire game.

You're not a Pathfinder without a SAM. That point is made clear several times in the story. Basically, your idea of "roleplaying" is not to play the role.

A little bit angry here? ^^ If not for SAM, Ryder could do absoluetly nothing to solve anything in Andromeda, that says it all... prime example of poor writing. Everythig evoles around SAM, everything is done by SAM, this all mighty, all powerful, all knowing Deus Ex Machina. And BW even tries to sell it to us "The Andromeda Initiative is doomed without SAM, thats why every Ark got one". ME was about Shepard, tapping in the dark all the time, making decisions based on vague information and data, with insights from the crew (squadmates with you)... but this, it is all about SAM. I think, without SAM, when everything would need your squad and the Nexus and Outposts and the Angara to solve, the story would be fine.

Now if you mean, like "I cannot RP a character that I want and tailor for my needs"? sure that is true but there is no video game like that. Unless of course you are playing a tabletop or inside your head.

Could we really not scan rocks by ourselves? Communicate to the ship to bring in forward points and settlement sites? Read the bloody temperature gauge on our own suit?! SAM, the game and the writers/developers treat the player like a baby.

What!? A somewhat limited range of choices in a cinematic RPG with VO and a character with a predefined identity!? Not to mention choosing to get rid of SAM would derail the entire plot, but you know, details.

A more reasonable response would be something along the lines of "I don't like this either but what choice do I have?". Saying something like "Rip it out" or something like that just sounds silly, just like when you choose the option to have Shepard demand that EDI be removed from the Normandy when you first come aboard. Shep's objection was noted, then just as quickly forgotten. Besides, Lexi already told Ryder that removing SAM would probably be lethal.

Having such an implant stuck in my head is the last thing I'd ever do but if Ryder felt the same way (s)he wouldn't have been in that position in the first place, so an acceptable limitation on choice IMO. I assume that Ryder was happy with the idea back in the Milky Way. The whole point of SAM and Ryder just being its arms and eyes is a problem IMO but a separate issue.

As controversal a Edi for example? So instead of destroing her in ME1 we ended with a body for her. She joined us in our missions. Nobody was at least a bit worried about seeing her sitting at the Citadel. Very controversal...

I'd shoot Jacob in the face then shoot Miranda in the face then take a shuttle out of that station. They would've regretted not having that control chip installed.

Unless/until they change the combat mechanics again - every PC from here on out will have a SAM or equivalent.
SAM is also their justification for Ryder's ability to swap combat powers and profiles on the fly.

Why haven't some of you figured this out? Mr Walters has a serious, almost religious, connection with the melding of computer AI and humans. It started with the ending of ME3 and continues throughout this entire game. Mr Walters is shoving it down our throats no matter how much we might not like it.
